Difficult to fill water when used in hanging plants. Great for tabletop height, however, I purchased them for hanging plants.

I love these things to water my outside plants. They are small, so it is not meant for more than an extra day, maybe stretch to 2 of water when it's 90 degrees out. Are they durable - definitely. I had mine for about 2 or 3 years until a hail storm got the best of them with golf ball size hail. Pea size hail never did any damage. I like them so much, I bought more after the hail storm.

Spikes are durable and easy to install. Best for smaller pots. Easy to refill with water into the plastic bird mouth.

These adorable self-watering spike plant birds are a great addition to any home container gardener's toolbox. I bought these as I was having issues keeping up with the watering on my porch container plants once summer hit. I live in a very humid location I was finding myself going out multiple times a day to hydrate my plants. Now I have these little bird helpers with the terra cotta spikes that help distribute out water whenever my plants need them. An added benefit has been learning how thirsty each of my plants really were. Some of the birds held water without refill after a few days and a few others I did have to refill after one day. It's interesting to see how well each plant is handling the humidity. I can definitely see me buying more of these as my container garden increases in size.

I'm going to admit, I didn't like them at first. They seemed to leak significantly. I even requested to return them, and just never got around to shipping them back. I'm glad I didn't, because we pulled them out a few weeks ago for our herb garden, as a possible solution to watering during a planned trip. We decided to bury them a bit deeper than we did the first time, and voila! Works perfectly! The trick is to ensure the spot where the plastic and terracotta join is fully under dirt. This prevents it from being able to gush water, and instead ensures a slow release. We top these up maybe one a week, and our herbs are happy and growing, without showing signs of overwatering. Glad we gave them a second chance!

Great little watering items. Look cute in the pots. Would be good if maybe a bit bigger as they empty in a day or two.

Bought these because the one I purchased from my local hardware store works great. Must be a different brand even though the bird looks exactly the same. The Pricetail version is apparently a cheap knockoff. In 3 of the 4, the water all leaked out in 2-4 hours. The 4th lasted 2 days. I tried doing what some reviewers suggested, but nothing worked. I even tried things that weren’t suggested (like filling the inside with little pebbles in hopes that might slow down the water passage but I think most of the water comes out where the seal is, not where the clay cone is. I even tried sealing the seal better. No luck. I suspect the one I bought years ago at my hardware store was made by the original creator, a German brand called Scheurich. Amazon is apparently full of knockoffs made in China that look just as cute as the original Scheurich version but don’t actually function.

I feel like these release the water a little too quickly. I wish the release was just a little bit slower. But the plants are happy so they are doing their job. They look great too.

Was really excited about these but unfortunately one arrived with the plastic top not quite fitting on the ceramic base and thus leaks water immediately, defeating its purpose. Otherwise they seem to work well and will hold water for a few days before draining. Easy to fill right back up which is nice in comparison to the water globes we have, which require being pulled out and potentially disrupting the plant root system regularly.
