I had to remove diesel out of a heater that had water mixed in it. I did have a little diesel/water mix make it's way past the 2 O rings but that's was after removing about 2.5gal and a quick disassemble and cleaned it was back working. Yes a syfer would have worked but not to get all of the different angles and to get all of it out.

I originally purchased this to suck dirt/muddy water out of an underground sprinkler line before I replaced a broken sprinkler head. In the process of digging out the line, chunks of dirt fell into the fitting where the old sprinkler had broken off. I didn't want the new one to get plugged up on its first use - not sure how much of a risk that was but wanted to play it safe. I used the fluid syringe to inject water into the line and then suck it back out. It worked great and the sprinkler is spraying water clog free. I then used it to suck the engine oil out of my lawn mower. This proved far more challenging. The thinker oil was very difficult to suck out, and the syringe managed to suck up as much air as it did oil. I also found out the smaller extension hose that inserts into the main hose can easily be pushed all the way into the main hose, something to be aware of when trying to find the bottom the sump to suck out all of the old oil. Overall, it is a quality product with many uses. The only ding is the challenges it presents when performing its primary advertised function.

I wanted to add my favourite engine oil additive which is 500 ml (17 oz). The oil level being right on the max line, I had to remove some to prevent overfilling. The way I might have done it meant draining the oil and adding most of it back with the additive then I came across this fluid extractor. After my daily commute, I left the motor for half an hour to cool off some but still warm enough to thin the oil and accessing via the dipstick hole, withdrew the 500 ml in 3 draws. Each took about a minute taking care to pull back the piston gradually then draining into my waste oil container. The supplied tubing being too short, I used a piece of 1/4" nylon that I had lying around; this fitted perfectly in the rubber adaptor. Overall then an easy and leak-free job with no drain pan to pour from and clean out. I intend to use the syringe next to remove the power steering fluid from its reservoir as part of flushing/replacement due to age/mileage. In summary, this is a very useful tool for the home mechanic and a steal at 10 bucks. Even comes with a pair of extra piston seals!

Material quality is good but the suction does not hold after extracting oil. I used this to change lawn mower oil and after extraction, the tube started to drip. Make sure to keep a pan and rag handy to clean up or prevent any spills.

The only thing is if you have to go deep to suck out transmission fluid you'll have to buy longer tubing but it locks in and works great.
