Great for persons with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Only gave 4 stars because the belt could be a little bit longer. When you put a cushion in the seat, the belt can be a little tight for larger patients

Hello friends, I selected this wheelchair seat belt alarm security system for a patient. The alarm is not annoying or overly loud which is nice. This is not meant to be a belt for securing someone into a wheelchair should they be unable to sit up in a chair on their own. It is simply a velcro belt that triggers an alarm when opened so that the caregiver knows the patient has left the wheelchair or has tampered with the belt. If a belt for securing a person in a cure is needed, this is not for you. This is for assisting caregivers with knowing when a patient may need more assistance.

This belt does come with cautions as to who this belt would be contraindicated for so that should be observed. The belt itself is two separate pieces which allows you to adjust the size. A clip or the provided zip ties can be used to attach this to a chair or bed. This is not meant to be a restraint, but the velcro closure my be difficult for some to separate. The belt has a loop handle that if you pull releases the velcro to open the belt. Once the plastic part of the belt lose contact the alarm will sound, once its put back the alarm stops. I was concerned this may be to loud but this is a brief intermittent beep so it gets your attention but its not overwhelming. I tend to have an aversion to loud noises and I found this tolerable. That said, for someone with dementia it could cause some confusion or annoyance so take that into account. Overall I feel like this is a good way to know your assistance is needed and to help prevent falls.
