Cleaning Basic Beat Instruments

Plastic and other wood-hard surface percussion instruments (i.e. rhythm sticks, resonator bells, woodblocks, etc.) may be cleaned with disinfecting wipes or sprays.

Building Your Classroom Curriculum

Your curriculum, along with your learning objectives and students’ abilities, will help you select the right balance of shakers, scrapers, metals, drums, and woods. Thirty cowbells playing the timeline for Ensemble I of the “World Music Drumming Curriculum” would be a bit much, but it would be perfect for a performance of “Click, Clack, Moo! Cows That Type!”

  • Stretch your budget by choosing instruments known for durability, quality, and sound
  • Do you need a tubano for every student? Maybe, but first make sure you have purchased a balanced variety of instruments and sounds.

Expert Perspective

It might be called a canary stick, but it’s actually an instant laugh producer. It truly sounds like a canary tweeting. Shake (and laugh), shake (and giggle), shake (and chuckle) again! -Melissa

Now it doesn’t make sounds anymore. Pretty expansive if it’s going to work for just a few days.

This mimics the old percussion udder effect. You at least 4. One person can play them.

I bought it for the music classroom I work in. It has a very realistic sound. It's a hit with the kids- you can't use it without smiling.

We like it a lot, and our daughter REALLY likes it, but the sound breaks with more than gentle use.

The sound is not too loud and the size is just right for little hands.

A tints wiggle, shake or jiggle will make sound. My 8 month old granddaughter loves it..and so do the older kids!
