The bracket seems strong, but if you use the screws into hardwood, the screw heads break off leaving the screw inside the wood. I even drilled a pilot hole for the screws. Used an impact driver.

Some of the screws snapped before I realized I had to drill the holes to the full length of the screws. I’ve rarely snapped a screw, yet three of the first five I used broke. I used other screws and painted the heads white.

Impressed with the quality for the price. Fit perfect and look good. Yes one side is partially painted, but you can't see it as it is under the hand rail board. Unless you are crawling on the floor looking up, you won't notice. If you are really picky just give them a quick spray with a glossy white paint spray.If you are adding new holes to your rail, I suggest you slightly pre-drill with a smaller bit. Will make screwing these in easier.
