The scarves in this book are pretty bog standard ( long rectangles). But you do get little glimmers of inspiration to take away & ferment !

As its an American book you can't get the exact yarn used. However the patterns are lovely, easy to do and look great.Use the ideas with substitute yarns. Mohair and boucle are easy enough to get hold of.Quick search for eyelash and ladder yarn brought up the woolly jumper shop which sells them

I rarely write a review, but this book is a book of extremes well worth mentioning: the most incredible, beautiful, delightful scarves, BUT when you want to knit them you can't get hold of the yarns required to reproduce them exactly without paying extortionate postage from the US. What a shame. And frustrating as well. However, if you can be creative and find equivalent yarns in the UK - and beware there are not many nice boucle yarns out there at the moment -, you will find incredible inspiration from this book. You might be better off with a simple pattern book like the Knitting Stitches Visual Encyclopaedia by Turner and using your own yarns to knit a scarf.

This book has easy to understand directions and fun projects that showcase your fancy yarn stash. I've only been knitting for six weeks and I can do any of the projects in this book! The author gives variations for each project and shows you how to test the stitches in a basic yarn so you don't sacrifice the good stuff while you learn. The only reason it gets 4 instead of 5 stars is that a couple of the directions leave out a picture that I would have found helpful (I had to re-read the written directions for it several times). Overall I highly recommend this book.

The book is easy to follow. There is some knitting help in there. I have found several scarves I plan to make, but, I haven't had time to make any yet. I do regret buying this for my Kindle, and not buying the actual book, because then things would be in color. But, I think I will make quite a few of these scarves.

I love this book! The physical structure is excellent - it folds flat so you can work the instructions without having to find a third hand to hold the pages down. The layout is also very good. Imbedded in the instructions for a scarf, etc is the lesson page to go to for help with the stitch introduced. The stitches are easy with good instructions and photos. Once I looked at the book, I had to go find some of the unusual yarns shown like ladder yarn and ribbon yarn. It's a great book for making knitted gifts everyone will enjooy receiving. It's ideal for a beginner like me. Simple stitches plus fabulous yarns make amazing scarfs.

As a newbie knitter, I LOVE this book! Scarves are what everyone tells us to start out with, but they quickly become boring to knit. The ideas in this book are creative riffs that are simple enough for beginners to try, yet high-impact enough to be satisfying to knit. And the patterns/yarn choices get progressively more challenging to keep things interesting. Plus the author offers some really useful tips that more experienced knitters probably take for granted but new knitters really need (e.g. cast-on an odd number when doing a seed stitch so you always end on a knit stitch and don't have to worry about which side you're knitting). This book (along with a 35-70% off moving sale at my local yarn store!) is helping me knit gorgeous and special scarves as holiday presents for all my family and friends.

What a great book! This has everything necessary to knit wonderful scarves. The full-color photographs are marvelously clear. The directions are precise. The exact yarns used are listed. It is also spiral bound so it lies flat and stays open just where you want it.The book starts with simple knit scarves and moves to some more complicated stitches. Every new stitch is fully illustrated with photos in color. And, the explanations are not at the end of the book. They are right after the scarf directions. Just turn the page and see how the new stitch is made. The yarns are listed by weight, amount necessary, brand, and color. The listed yarns are wonderful but not necessary. You can substitute any yarn you want as long as it is a similar weight. I imagine she listed the exact yarns so that she would not be inundated with emails and phone calls because the yarns are fabulous. If you want a great book on scarves that are elegant and easy, this is the book for you. If you are a beginner, this is the best book you'll find on the market.

Very simple patterns with novelty yarns. Not worth the price as any knitter can do this. Good for beginners, but not useful for more experienced knitters.
