I was able to rekey 5 Schlage locks both deadbolt and handle with this kit. I did have to use some household tools to accompany this as it only comes with the pins. I actually used a long socket Husky size 8 as a follower and it worked perfectly - I also made sure to watch a few videos as well. Best part is I have plenty of pins left over for future locks

I’ve rekeyed a few locks now, using a cheap rekey kit tool set. Thanks!

These pins are precisely machined and work well. The shape isn't exactly identical to the Schlage pins, but it doesn't seem to make a difference in key insertion or lock operation. The pins come in individually labeled bags. Given how infrequently I use this kit, I actually prefer the small bags over the organizer boxes that come with the more expensive kits. This set is easy to store away for the one time I need it every couple years.

Short version: They fit, no burs, nice and smooth. Exactly what you expect to get.I bought this to be able to swap out pins in my lock collection after picking them. It's a lot cheaper than buying more locks. My 40 lock collection is always changing from swapping pins around.

This set contains all the pins needed to re-key any Schlage cylinder, 5 or 6 pins tumbler lock.If only this kit contain 10 or so cylinder springs, it would have been perfect.

The inexpensive all-in-one rekeying kit I tried only had, I think, 5 values of key pins. This kit includes all 10. What that means it that you can actually rekey SC1 Schlage locks to your existing Schlage keys if needed, without sanding down the pins to make them fit. While 50 of each is overkill for most people, it's nice for anyone into locksport. You'll need extra tools to rekey anything though, such as an appropriate follower, possibly pin tweezers, and sometimes a C clip remover. Other tools are necessary for different kinds of Schlage locks, such as a rigid wire tool for depressing the release on some Schlage doorknobs. You also need to have a really good idea of what you're doing or you can actually permanently seize up a lock. If you have an old lock to practice on. I'd recommend that before doing it on one you care about. Read up on it, watch videos, whatever you need to do.The best advice I can give is to remember, to remove the cylinder, put the key in and turn it a fraction of a turn (say 30-45 degrees) or else the pins will set into the wrong spots and lock it up. Also be very careful with pushing the follower through cleanly with no gaps at all or you will lose top pins and springs. If you mess up, do not force anything. If this happens, the moment the pin/spring pops out, STOP PUSHING. You can damage the springs very easily and you will need replacements, and if you don't have appropriate spring replacements, you've got a useless lock. Also I wouldn't say this is a locksmith pack really, since locksmiths will probably order even higher quantities. I'm not sure who this kit is geared for except people into locksport or who are familiar enough with rekeying.
