SATA to USB Adapter with Power
  • Please check whether the hard disk has partitions. The new hard disk can be used only after partitioning.

  • The partitioning steps are as follows: Right click on the "computer" "management" - "disk management" - find a new hard drive - right click on the "initialization" "new simple volume" - the default do next - Accomplish.

  • 5G is the standard definition of the USB protocol and is a theoretical value. The specific transfer speed in use depends on the hard disk and the computer. In the actual test, the speed of different hard disks and different computers are not the same.

  • 1.When using a desktop computer, use the USB 3.0 port at the rear of the host. Otherwise, the power supply may be insufficient.

2.It is recommended to replace the USB port for comparison test when using the laptop to avoid hot swap.

  • 4.If the hard disk is used for a long time, it is very likely that the hard disk has bad sectors. If there are many bad sectors, the hard disk will be disconnect.

Plugged in and drive worked immediately. Note drive must be properly formatted for the system accessing it to see files. If it isn't properly partitioned and formatted you can use utilities to reset, partition, and format the drive to make it useable. You could use this to create an external drive but an enclosure would probably be a better idea for long term use. This is probably best to pull old data off and clearing the drive before disposing or selling it.

I tried using this on an old internal drives I had, never was able to get it to function. I bought this adapter to try to read a hard drive from dvd/hd recorder to learn the file format of the hard drive. I wanted to install another drive, as the old one stop working. But the adapter would never read that drive. So I am stuck with something that doesn't work and was a waste of money.

Super happy with my choice here. These were the cheapest option, and ended up being the best deal. They're JMicron controllers. Not the best, but a good mid tier option. Also means you can run smartctl on the drives. 100% necessary for long term storage. That was my biggest worry as I'm using these for a Pi NAS. If you have a 3D printer and some technical knowledge, these are a great buy. The HDD rack model in my image is on Thingiverse with thing:3664611If you're wondering about the configuration, you have to disable the UAS quirk for these to work with smartctl. On most machines you can disable it in the grub config with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="usb-storage.quirks=152d:0583:u". On a pi you have to edit /boot/firmware/cmdline.txt and add usb-storage.quirks=152d:0583:u to the end. Use the -d sat flag on smartctl! Ex. sudo smartctl -t short -d sat /dev/sda OR sudo smartctl -a -d sat /dev/sda.Again, super stoked on these little adapters!
