The SantaMedical Gen 2 feels more responsive and gives faster readings than the Zacurate I previously owned. With the Zacurate, I had to wiggle my finger around to get a reading. Not so with the SantaMedical, as it seems to take readings regardless of how I insert my finger (or what finger I use).I would also compare my pulse rate readings with my Fitbit and the Zacurate would rarely match or would often be off by ~5%. The SantaMedical Gen 2 has either been spot on with my Fitbit or within 1 or 2 beats. I don't have the expertise to determine if either are medical grade accurate, but having the numbers in sync inspires confidence in the readings. The device feels solid and well built, the screen is bright and easy to read, and the case is a welcome bonus compared to the "rubberized cover" that Zacurate includes. I'd definitely recommend the SantaMedical over the Zacurate.Update: The power button is sensitive and it’s easy to mistakenly turn the device on even when lightly handling it in the case (thus shortening battery life). I resolved this by inserting a trimmed toilet paper roll inside the case. It fits perfectly and helps to prevent this issue (see image)

I got this after being exposed to Covid to monitor oxygen levels. I chose this one because it also actually showed your heart rhythm under the oxygen and heart rate readings. It was very easy to install batteries and get my 1st reading. When I used it, it read pretty much what I typically read at the Dr's office. I was very pleased with how it worked and the bright, clear display. However, I gave it only 4 stars because it seems to have a hard time reading my husband's fingers. He has worked construction his whole life and has fairly large fingers. We could only get it to work on his pinky and even that took a while to get a good reading. It seems like a very good product if you don't have large or callused fingers.

As a thirty year Cardio Thoracic ICU nurse, I have a lot of experience with hospital grade pulse oximetry monitoring devices. With the crazy COVID cases in which the person has vague viral symptoms and is noted to have profound silent hypoxia, I decided to purchase a pulse ox for my family’s personal use. I found the device easy to use and very accurate when compared with hospital devices. It comes with a lanyard as well as padded case, and includes batteries. As others have mentioned, insert batteries carefully. They have two springs side by side which I think is confusing for insertion/placement . A special feature I really liked is the display of a pleth waveform on one of the views. This waveform helps visualize the intensity of each heartbeat. You can actually see how forcefully or weakly the heart contracts on each beat. This waveform also helps you to discern how accurate your readings are. If the waveform has a repetitive row of hills traveling across, then you are giving good info to the machine and the readings are more accurate. If the waveform is erratic and you have no sat reading or low sats then there may be too much interference from movements or not enough blood flow for device to work. Place device on thumb, index, or middle fingers that are not too cold and have person hold extremity very still while obtaining reading for more accurate results. I highly recommend this device for personal use for its ease of use, accuracy, value, and convenience.

I bought this as an update to a Santa Medical oximeter I bought in January of 2017. The older one still works perfectly well, but since I use it to help monitor a health issue, I wanted a second one available. The first one I bought based on reviews, this one I bought based on personal satisfaction with the original. I have had the original with me in the doctors office, and while maybe not quite as fast as the medical grade equipment, the results are virtually identical. The new one I just got is much faster at resolving and updating than the original, and the result are in line with the original. The build quality seems excellent; it feels like a quality piece of equipment. The screen is easy to read, even upside down (I use the screen that shows the waveform on my left thumb). If I had one request, it would be to offer a display choice, reading upright on the left thumb, on the waveform. This is by no means a negative factor. The price for the device was also very reasonable.

The unit came in a neatly packaged box complete with a lanyard, a case, 2-AAA batteries, and the instructions. While the batteries weren't a common brand, it was a bonus to have them included at all. My spouse, a retired nurses aide, tested the pulse-ox meter several times and declared it excellent. The display is bright and clear and there are 6 display modes available. It's easy to switch between them to change the orientation, direction, and style of the display which makes it easy for either the caregiver or patient to read the results. The heavy denier nylon case has a velcro closure and both a D-ring and belt loop so it can be easily attached to your belt or travel bag. The case has just enough room for the unit and a small microfiber cloth or alcohol cleaning pad. The pulse oximiter unit is well protected by the case whether you hang it around your neck or throw it in a travel bag. The lanyard has a clip so that you can detach the unit for use while leaving the lanyard around your neck. Pressing the power button turns the unit on and repeated pressing cycles through the display options. The unit shuts off by itself after 8 seconds so no worries about running the batteries down if you forget to turn it off. Altogether, this is a great pulse oximeter with nice accessories making it an excellent value.
