The Sage X is awesome but the product came with a chipped ferrule and scuffed rod tube. Not what I was expecting for a $900 product.

I have numerous Sage rods (A couple Foundations in various weights, various Motives and Payloads), and numerous rods from other manufacturers, all mid-range. This is the first time I've splurged on a high-end rod and kind of wish I hadn't. The Sage X has ruined me anything else in my quiver. This is far and away the easiest casting - longest distance rod I now own. I travel for work and am now casting my Sage X for GTs in the Indian Ocean, from boats and shore. I was concerned about spending too much for a rod but I am extremely pleased with my purchase after the first time out.

This review is specifically about the Sage X 10 foot, 6 weight, 4 piece rod. I bought the rod last fall as a replacement for another 10 ft, 6 weight, also a high end rod. The Sage outperformed my former, lost rod, used mainly as half pounder rod on the Trinity River in Northern California. The rod is light and powerful while still giving great feel on the small steelhead. I fish mainly a Rio Versa-Tip line with one of the sinking heads. I won't claim that rods costing half as much aren't good rods that will perform quite well. However I enjoy the feel and look of the more expensive rods and the Sage X looks great and performs well, probably better than I can cast. Its fast action suits my casting style without being too fast. I highly recommend the Sage X.
