I'm planning on fishing the Boundary Waters for trophy pike this summer so I got the 10/11wt rod. I have quite a few nicer rods that could work but I wanted a cheap one that I could abuse and not worry about breaking a few guides on while I'm packing it in to different lakes and rivers. Overall, the quality is really nice. It's pretty lightweight, performs decent, and has a nice action. Even though it says it is a 10wt, it feels closer to an 11. If you're thinking of targeting big pike, musky, or salt water fish but don't want to drop $400-600 on an Echo or Sage, etc, I'd definitely recommend this one.

I absolutely love this 5wt rod, it has nice action that’s comparable to my sage rod with perfect balance, easy cast ability, and a nice look as well as weight

I bought this trip for a trip to Alaska fishing salmon and I could not be more happy with the way it performed. Fished like a rod that is worth 3X the amount. I primarily used the rod for fishing sockeye in AK but also caught bull trout and grayling on the rod in BC on my way north. The rod has a fast action compared to anything else in this price point. My wife ended up breaking the rod on a good sized sockeye that jumped and gave her some slack line. The line wrapped around the tip before taking another big run. Snapped the rod near the tip but this would have happened to any other rod regardless of the price. Literally at the end of 4 weeks of fishing. I will contact Okuma to see if I can get a replacement for the end section but I have no expectations other than paying for it myself. I will update depending upon their response.

Great fly rod, my 2nd one (broke first one off on ATV). My son also has the same rod and really like it as well. Its an excellent fly rod for a great price.

Surprisingly well built for the cost. Cast well, stiff butt section.

Ordered the SLV-10 expecting to receive a 10 wt, I got a 5 wt instead. Good rod, I would just like the 10 wt I ordered

This a very decent rod. Very good quality for what you pay for it.

I really like this rod. I have a few other Okuma rods but this was my first SLV as I have the slightly more affordable Crisium versions. This rod, while being 9.5 feet in assembled length breaks down into 4 pieces and is very manageable. The fighting butt is fixed to the rod which is fine for me but it would be nice if it came off in case you needed to replace it. This assembles easily and casts like a dream. I have no issue casting floating and sink tip lines. I cast further with the floating line but I am just used to that type of weight line when casting. The reel seat and components are top quality and hold the reel in tight. I paired this with the 8/9 SLV reel and it is a perfect combo together.

Normally, I would rate Okuma products on the 4 or 5 star level given value for the money. Admittedly, I own a 4, 8, and 10 weight. Took the 10 weight up to Alaska to fish the famed Russian River. The rod/reel combo handled the trout with ease, but I ended up hooking into a 10 pound red. After a few spectacular runs, the female portion of last rod blank gave way to a deafening crack. I still landed the fish, but my day went less comfortable when I now had to fish the 4 weight. I’ll give a shout out to Amazon’s return policy though. They took the 10 weight back and sent me a new one.

Always a fan of Okuma fishing gear. So bought their 8ft 3-weight SLV fly rod. What a beauty! Well made, superbly finished. Action feels good while practice-casting in the backyard, but definitely the lower end of a a 3-weight: don't expect (as I did) to up-load to a 4-weight line and see it belt out an extra 5 yards on the cast, it won't. But within its line rating, it feels good. Being IM8 carbon the action is crisp and more fast/modr than modr alone. Only down side was a bent tip ring on arrival, but you get the impression that was due to sloppy courier handling rather than poor QC at the manufacturing stage. Try one, but think carefully about your line weight rating before ordering.

It's a four-piece rod that loads well and feels good. Coupled with the matching SLV reel (normally I don't go for "matching sets" just because they match, for some reason that seems newbie to me) and some DT 5/6 wt line, it feels good. I don't have much to compare it to, as I'm new to the sport of fly fishing, but for a combo that can be built up for around $150, it is pretty great.I put silver sharpie on the matching joints so that I could assemble it straight without having to adjust it so much. Not sure why this wasn't done from the factory, but it was a quick "mod". I also put a little candle wax on the joints to make them seat well- doing this ensures a snug fit that doesn't stick when it comes time to take it apart. It's a great combo- this rod disassembles small enough to strap across the back and bike (motorized or human-driven) to the spot of your choice and won't make you cry if you break it. It does the job and doesn't break the bank. You'll only be sad if you buy it and realize that you hate fly fishing.

I bought a 10/11 SLV rod for Baja and was so impressed that I bought a 6wt after my G.Loomis blank rod cracked. So far I can tell you that this rod fishes like a much more expensive stick with just the right kind of moderate-fast action I like. It is relatively light and yet I feel like I can throw just as far as with similar rods I own that cost about 8X more. Can't speak for the durability yet, but so far so good. If you're on the fence about this one, you should just buy it.UPDATE: 06.20.13: Durability has been great. I like these rods so much that I bought a 5wt for Sage backup duty. After using these for a while, I realized that these sticks are a little more moderate in action than some of the other fast action rods I have (Sage, Echo, Ross). These Okuma SLV rods are also a little heavier, but if 1 oz makes that much difference to you, maybe you need to hit the gym more often.
