This had been setting on a shelf in a warehouse somewhere for a couple years, there have been at least two updates to the product since this one was manufactured. But no big deal, I go through two or more of these a year. I work them hard and throw them away. They are dirt-cheap and I get my money's worth out of them. Negatives are the chain needs constant tightening and the chain guard/cover clogs up rapidly in a short time (it slows me down dealing with it). But they are cheap. It would be nice if the most commonly failed parts were available. Sometimes I have to junk one because a simple small part is worn or broken. But did I mention they are cheap?

It works great just like my old ones. Minus combo wrench-bar oil-instructions.

This saw and the extension work great for trimming the trees in my yard. I don’t need it everyday, but it sure is handy to have when I do. I used to use a corded chain pole saw and it worked but but I had to drag the cord around and it was only 8 foot. This Ryobi is 12 foot and no cords.

I didn’t even know I had the Expand it capability when I bought my weed eater. This saw is part of that Ryobi system of interchangeable attachments. This saw is very capable. Easy to assemble. You don’t even need the strap it comes with. You can hold it to cut with it. It helps to clean out the guard area and take off the cover if you are running it often. You’ll notice when it gets gunked up. Chain tightens pretty easily. No more has pole saw headaches. This will run longer than you can hold it. Try removing on of the extension poles for clean up work when the bigger stuff is on the ground. Pro tip- don’t let your saw ever hit the ground and it will stay sharp for a long, long time. Wear eye pro and make sure you aren’t cutting into the wind. You’ll eat sawdust. Happy trimming!

The box contained a number of items. The two, that most people would be interested in, are the attachment itself and what I would call an extension. The extension is about 3 feet long. The pole saw, about 2 feet, plus the blade . It should be noted this accessory did not come with bar & chain oil.I started with Ryobi’s ‘Expand-it’ string trimmer. Later added the chainsaw, bare tool RY40500A. The string trimmer is really an attachment for the powerhead, RY40002. The pole saw connected readily to the powerhead. With, or without the supplied extension. The grand, overall length is 8-1/2 feet. Battery to farthest chain link. Granted, trying to control such a long device by holding the battery is very reckless. After assembly, I tried the pole saw on the reason I bought it. Not quite tall/long enough. But highly effective on lower branches. Later, I looked at Ryobi Tool’s website and found the extension piece is called “Intermediate boom assembly” p/n 308010016. They want about $22 for one. Oddly, the checkout page wouldn’t load. So, I searched elsewhere. The search results contained a number websites that specialize in small engine parts. None of whom I was ready to trust. But, a small engine parts web site I have used many times in the past, had what I needed. And they will deliver it for less than $30. After the second extension arrived, it proved effective in reaching the higher branches. However, the pole saw was much harder to control.Food for thought:I’m not an engineer. However, I suspect as ‘extensions’ are added between powerhead & attachment. The likelihood of something bending/breaking would increase.
