Initial review (update at the end):This is my first time using Rust Bullet and I am pleased with the results so it won't be my last... BUT... It's difficult to work with. It is extremely tacky and begins skinning almost immediately. At first I thought they might have sent me an expired quart because as soon as I opened it, it began to expand into a thick foamy mess that started to spill out the top of the can, but I quickly went ahead and poured some out, mixed in a bit of solvent, loaded it up and went to spraying. The results... Really really good. I sanded using the suggested 80 grit and did 6 coats, the adhesion and hardness is amazing. The color options (white/black) do mostly limit it as an industrial paint as even though you can add a different top-coat the Rustbullet makes for a super solid top-coat.UPDATE (08-25-24)I've been repainting a bunch of jobsite boxes using this stuff so I thought I might expand on my review. Even though the results were good for the initial quart I ordered, I do think that first quart was past its expiration date as the paint I've ordered since has been of typical viscosity, hasn't foamed-up/skinned and has been easy to work with. A hardner is probably rarely warranted with this paint as after 24 hours it seems around 70% cured and by 48 hours it is 90% cured and is rock-solid. But with that said this product does not store wiell and should be used immediately after opening; I've been using the pint-sized to spray the jobsite boxes (spraying 5:3) and doing ~5 coats on ~25 sq feet before it's been depleted.

I tried ordering this product from Amazon twice and both times the product arrived dried up / hard - not as paint. I reached out directly to the manufacturer (in Nevada). The product they shipped me was in perfect condition and worked great!I used this on a rusted bathroom ceiling fan housing - not the fan itself but what you see when looking up at the fan. I found the product easy to apply (it was a bit thinner than a latex paint, but was not runny) and the odor was no where near as bad as some people described - no worse than an oil stain.I applied 3 thin coats and will wait 24 hours and will then apply a white semi gloss latex paint that matches the trim in the bathroom.I suspect you will be unable to reuse any leftover paint - to get the lid off I mangled it and if you don’t get an airtight seal, it will harden up.It’s easy to see how this product suffocates rust - it essentially dries more as a rubber coating than as typical paint. It is smooth and does look like paint, so top coating as I am doing is not necessary.

As a senior woman, I had purchased the Rust Bullet DuraGrade paint (in June) to cover some rust areas on my car. I was really pleased with the results. It was easy for me to apply and had very little fumes. Now forward to this September…..when I looked at the areas that I painted, I noticed there were a few areas showing the rust bleeding thru. After seeing the bleed thru I decided to purchase the 4oz “White Shell” just to touch up those spots. As soon as I received the product I decided to get started with what I thought would be a 10 minute task. Unfortunately as you can see , I wasn’t even able to open the can! What a disappointment!I then contacted The Rust Bullet customer support to see if they can send me a replacement can of paint so that I can proceed with the touch up for my car. The customer service rep told me to use a screw to put a hole in the can, then pour it into another container! When you tell a senior woman that doesn’t own any tools to put a hole in a can, I don’t consider that customer support! WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!! Obviously I won’t be purchasing products from the people again!

A LITTLE COSTLY AND NOT EASY TO WORK WITH. COVERS NICELY BUT DRIES QUICKLY AND DO NOT GET IT ON YOUR SKIN OR ANYTHING YOU DON'T WANT PAINTED. IT DON'T WANT TO COME OFF ONCE IT DRIES. SO FAR IT HAS DONE IT'S JOB. MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS IT IS NOT USER FRIENDLY IF YOU WANT TO USE IT OVER A PERIOD OF TIME. MY SUGGESTION IS GET ALL YOUR PREP WORK DONE AND DO ALL YOUR PAINTING IN A DAY OR TWO. OPENING AND CLOSING THE CAN WILL DRY YOUR PAINT UP QUICKLY. I USE GLASS JARS FOR PORTION CONTROL OVER A COUPLE OF DAYS...SEEMS TO HELP.

This is the best stuff I've found to prevent or treat metal with rust. I try to treat any rusty areas with the Rust Blast first, which really removes the rust, but this paint also inhibits the growth of existing rust if painted over. There are a few tips that I need to share with potential users of this product. The metallic grey is more silver than grey and it's thicker than the black. Therefore, the black may require more coats than the grey (silver). Also, these paints take a long time to dry, or cure. In other words, don't touch it even after it's sitting it the sun for an hour. Give it time to dry. Additionally, don't get this pain on your hands. This stuff sticks to anything and is very difficult to remove, especially fingers. Wear gloves. And finally, since this stuff dries like a weld, getting this pain on the rim of the can will eventually make it almost impossible to open the lid again. Thus the smaller cans are great. I am going to try transferring the contents into a screw-top canister and see if it works better, but I suspect it will only work if I keep the pain off of the rim. Hard to do if you shake it up to mix the paint first. Having said that, with a few precautions, this stuff is like painting a layer of armor over any metal surface. Rust can't grow if it can't breath. Highly recommended, but watch out for the welded lid syndrome which is practically impossible to open.
