Nice compact little tachometer/ hour meter. Great for small engines. Super handy adding a tachometer to your equipment.

Unlike some cheaper hour meters, this one doesn’t start counting if it doesn’t see a motor RPM. For this reason, you can’t likely use this on your diesel for anything except a voltage meter. Further more, if it’s not running it automatically switches back to the clock and hour meter. It is nice that you don’t have to turn the key on to see the hour meter, as the back up battery constantly displays it. I believe this battery recharges when your key is on - however like another reviewer mentioned, there is no way to change it if it goes bad. Everything is epoxy sealed (and water proof). Similarly there is no way to repair the circuit board if it goes bad. When you do provide it power, the backlight comes on (and I believe it starts charging the internal battery mentioned above). The voltage gauge is within 0.1V of my measurements, and if you exceed the user set voltage range on either end it flashes red every few seconds. The tach pickup has about a 4.5 ft cord on it (1.4m). This was barely long enough for my lawnmower with a rear mounted engine, however for front mounted machines it shouldn’t be a problem. I *think* I can cut and splice the wire, but I can’t confirm. As noted in the description it needs a 2.37” (60.5mm) hole, however when I measured mine it came in at 59.6 mm. Depending on your material, a 2.25” drill bit and a file to clean up the edges may suffice. Having made the mistake before a 2 ⅜” is likely too big.

This meter does quite a few things, including a clock! It keeps track of engine hours, is a tacometer, keeps track of maintenance hours, and is a voltmeter! It also gives you low and over volatage warnings, as well as high rpm warnings. The only downside is it is a bit complicated figuring out how t get to what you want it to do. Most imprtant for me is knowing the engine rpm, especially when I am on my mooring approach because i want pretty precise speed control. Voltage is nice to know, I have Lifepo4 batteries that do not want to be overcharged. The maintenance hours is nice, and total hours is also very nice. The only real complaint I have with this meter is it is not clear if the battery is replaceable. If it it is, the instructions do not say how, and I do not see any easy way to get it apart without damage. Since it is not a cheap unit, I would be disappointed if its life is over when the battery dies.I do like and recommend this meter, I have had Runleader items before and they are good quality. I just hope the battery is replaceable.
