The ligature assists the performer in seeking a more responsive and free playing sound. I needed a ligature for my Runyon Custom mouthpiece and the chart said the "L4" was the correct ligature. Not so! I had to return the "L4" (exceptional easy process) and order an "L5".

This ligature is designed to change the tone of the clarinet. If rocked one way, the clarinet is more open and brighter, the other way it is darker more soulful. The problem is that it is not that easy to adjuster. Since this ligature is for a Eb soprano (sopranino) clarinet, this type of ligature may work better on a Bb clarinent. (Just a side note - Bb ligature is a different size).
