I play a Fender Mustang and I was looking for a heavier gauge to make up for the shorter scale, in a flat wound. These are just right for me.

Bought these for my #1 bass back when I needed tension and lots of low and high end (playing in D and C#, namely).Loved the way they felt even at E standard, and the high end felt almost out of place on strings so smooth. But I found myself wanting to dig in more, and they lost that amazing *Zing* after a few weeks of regular playing. And it turns out, they didn't really like being tuned down past D standard, though that might just be the setup I did. They felt floppy down in that range.Loved the colors tho! Not a big football guy but they felt right at home on my sonic blue/red pickguard bass.Eventually my music returned fully to E standard (with some notable drop tunings) and I got a Billy Sheehan set instead, where I could dig in more and still detune my E string as needed. Really wish I could've used these strings more, as they are amazing for what they are. Maybe I will on another bass. And not a big fan of the price, but hey, flats are like that. And Steve Harris is more than happy spending that much every gig night, so good for him :)

Sounds great but man they are high tension. I had to take them off, they are not friendly to your bass neck.

I have a Fender Squire Modified Vintage Jaguar Bass with Stock PU's, self Refitted HIGH MASS BRIDGE. FINALLY HAVE A NICE BOOMING SOUND with (still) lots of TONAL COLORING! Also the FLAT WOUNDS are SILKY SMOOTHE as far as letting you slide from one note to the next!

these are the only strings that I use. I've tried other flatwound strings but they just don't cut it. That 110 really growls and is a nice heavy tone. Very bright for so heavy gauge strings indeed they cost more but I'll pay it.

Las utilice en un Fender P-bass 50 aniversario y le dieron un sonido grueso y profundo. El tacto a los dedos es genial. En resumen suenan brutalmente bien.

This is written as a top tier Iron Maiden fan. In the fan club, own all the studio and live albums, even the rarities. Mine are installed on his signature Fender P Bass. The sound is great, but as mentioned many times they will not produce the bright sound for long. Just like the great D'Addario Chromes, the zing leaves pretty early. Probably the most difficult thing to get over is the tension. I've got the action lowered to help overcome this - as with Steve I have some fret noise with almost every hit, it is that low. Your left forearm will be crying out while playing fast fills and power chords. Your right fingertips will ache from essentially slapping against a solid object for extended periods.Steve must have some incredible strength built up from playing thousands of hours on these. I'm a left handed mechanic and have a hard time with them. If you must have every last bit of 'Arry tone, go ahead. The tension and quick loss of brightness is why I'm giving it a 3/5. As with most flats, the tone is versatile enough to cover any genre.

Like others have addressed these strings are tight. You will probably need to adjust the truss rod when you put these on. I love how tight they are. These are on my Steve Harris signature p bass. I was never a user of flats, but I absolutely love these strings. These strings are for manly men....Great tone, awesome highs and lows. They have great thump, but also cut through on the highs. It is possible that you may need to adjust your amp EQ to make them sing. Switching between basses depending on the song, I may turn the treble up slightly. They are flats so they won't sound like bright steels.

The strings are such amazing, the texture is really soft, they are very thick, so I had to adapt my Yamaha RBX170 bass guitar for it. The white piece in the top of the neck was customized by myself for it and works nice. The sound of this strings is quite that metallic sound that always have mr Harris, and they are designed for that kind of music. Tapping with this strings is really hard. So If you do a lot of tapping or hard stuff like Billy Sheehan is better that you get his rotosound customized strings. But if you want to do classic rock, heavy metal and all that stuff this is the real deal.

I never tried flatwound strings or any strings made by Rotosound. Since I'm an Iron Maiden fan, I thought I'd try these on a P/J type bass. I selected these specific strings because my bass has a maple frettboard (not rosewood) and it really gives it a high end sound. The flatwounds, bring up the bottom end and tone down the high end to balance the bass out regardless of whether I favor my Precission pickups or the Jazz ones. The actual feel of these strings is not as rough as roundwound strings. However, since they are a very heavy gauge, I find myself working harder to press on the fretts. No big deal.I switch back and forth between finger style and picking. For some odd reason, I thought you couldn't use a pick on flatwounds, but I was proven wrong. They definitely have a unique clear, but mellow sting to them when picked! All in all, not bad for the price.
