ROLLS MIC SWITCH ON/OFF

I use these to do PA announcing. This was the third one I have gotten. The first lasted a few years. It died on me during an event a couple of years ago. The second one started getting funny when I hooked it up last month so I bought this to have ready to do. The second one did work during the event and I cleaned it when I got home. It’s been fine since then. I looked at others and none seemed more reliable. At $60, I can’t really complain as I use it several times during the year and it’s made working gigs more professional. It isn’t an absolute kill switch, but greatly reduces the sound. So at speaking / announcing volume you’re good. If you yell at someone off mic, you might override the switch and broadcast what you are saying. You have to be pretty loud to do that though. It really does work well and it’s an easy setup. The switch is also easy to work.

I ordered this product via Amazon Warehouse and it arrived partially disassembled - I did not count this in my evaluation of the product because it's not the manufacturer's fault, but it appears the prior owner attempted to convert the switch from push-lock to push-and-hold (which the instructions say you can do!), failed to do so, and gave up. I mention this only because swapping the switch's functionality may be too much for those who can't handle figuring out tiny fiddly parts. That said, this device more or less does what it says it will - it mutes your microphone. The build quality itself is high, and I appreciate the steel case and reasonably sturdy construction - the plastic switch button was a disappointment, and I would not recommend using this as a foot switch as there's a gap around the button in the steel casing which is sure to accumulate dirt.It does make a very audible clicking noise when you press it, which my microphone absolutely picks up, which rather takes away from the entire point of having a mute switch to silence disruptive or distracting noise. I swapped the switch to push-and-hold, and while it mostly works most of the time, it often leads to noise in the audio signal, which again defeats the purpose if you're using it live.Overall, this is a reasonable product if you're recording audio to edit later, or have an entry-level budget and want something to mute your mic live. I wouldn't recommend it to people, but I wouldn't discourage people from buying it either.

I've been using the MicSwitch on a regular basis since I got it, but it just died on me after 3 months of usage which is very disappointing. It makes a huge white noise and button doesn't work anymore. Just too late to get a replacement on Amazon :-(

The switch does cut the audio but it also makes a pop sound in my audio interfaces and mixers every time it's pushed down and let go. Tried it with a number of things, always makes a pop. I have it set to momentary not latched, so... Device is built well but fails to perform it's one job.

I had another model Rolls switch, which was push and hold to mute. I just bought this one and swapped it out, so I can leave the mic muted as long as I like. Solid metal box, decent weight to it, the switch it quiet and produced no audible noise on the mic channel. Exactly what I needed.

We have had this for about 2 months of baseball season. Our PA announcer LOVES it. I have read about the reliability, but we will see how it holds up. Also, don't know about the bleed since we use it for PA and it would be too quiet to hear anyway. The case is solid and it was fairly easy to change to momentary on. Default is locking on/off.

Works as described, no pops/clicks when switched while connected to a phantom powered mic. This unit does not mute, it lowers the volume by 30db or so (not measured). It is used as an active cough switch for a podcaster... giving the person an opportunity to turn away from the mic and cough while depressing the button. The button/switch is cheap, and slightly noisy, but works for us.The unit was taken apart to change the switch to be a momentary push. Instructions to do so were included and easy to follow.

Mutes the microphone as you would expect. However, It’s impossible to tell if the switch is up or down if you are wearing shoes. If they could change the switch to give you some kind of feedback it would be a five out of five.

Nice switch works well, but an indicator would help as to whether the switch is depressed or not...

I bought this item this week for my church, so my pastor could mute his mic when he coughed. The device technically worked, but I had to disconnect it in the middle of the sermon, because it generated an annoying crackling and popping noise intermittently every minute or so. It became so distracting, I had to interrupt the sermon, and disconnect the device. I'm going to return it and keep looking. I may have just gotten a defective unit, but I'm not willing to risk another sermon to try a replacement.

I shopped around for several weeks before buying this device. I had considered building one instead of buying this one. However, it would not have been as nice and well made as this product. It works exactly as I had hoped. We use two of these during our radio show and would buy another of it were needed. It has some weight t o it, so you don't have to worry that it is a lightweight little box. It has the inherent feel of a real piece of tech equipment, not a wanna be toy. No noise to operate, and the mic goes silent... exactly like it should.
