Rockville is proud to introduce the all new PBG18 18” professional subwoofer. This latest addition to our bass gig series is our most powerful and best quality passive subwoofer to date. We tested these against subwoofers from leading brands in the industry such as Peavey, Yamaha, and others and these held their own! Please do not compare this to any off brand name subs. This subwoofer is commercial grade. The advantages of purchasing Rockville, Yamaha, Peavey, or other high end brands are longevity, power, sound quality, and sensitivity. We did so much testing. There is a huge difference between the quality and components of this versus off brand names. The off brand enclosures are built with a material called particle board. We spend more money manufacturing these with MDF, which will hold up for a much longer time than particle board. Better quality wood also equals better sound! The pro audio subwoofer in the cabinet has a very large 4" KSV voice coil and a 100 oz. high quality magnet. The off brand names models will usually have a magnet half the size and a voice coil half the size as well. The advantage is that our unit can handle more power and will last longer. These subs can take a real beating! Another thing we wanted to focus on is the sensitivity. When we were doing all our testing we noticed with the same amplifier, one subwoofer we were testing against went louder than the rest. The reason was because it had a better sensitivity rating. This means that it was more sensitive to amplifier power. We had our engineers design this sub to have as good of a sensitivity rating as that particular sub we tested that we liked.

I have had this speaker for 6 months now. Used it in an outdoor pole barn. Good solid bass. I have a boehringer amp pushing 2 of these bridged in parallel. I almost always have the volume just under clipping. They have held up to many nights of rocking the neighborhood. Yes, the neighbors can hear clearly. I couldn't find used for this price. I would recommend. Make sure you have a good amp. The lows really hit when I put them inside the house.

“The off brand enclosures are built with a material called particle board. We spend more money manufacturing these with MDF”Not true!! Even the manual states constructed with particle board. A bit of false advertising on the manufacturers part.Other than that they are a decent, budget minded sub. After a short (8 hour) break-in period they sound decent, but is highly recommended to run these through a good EQ and crossover.

Very Impressed!!!! It puts out a lot and I’ve only got it driven with my 300w qsc amp at 8ohms and it kicks butt, I am in a medium sized room 30’x60’ approximately, and it shakes the building and still has plenty to give. Having said that, I don’t know if I’d feel comfortable putting 1000w on this thing. Just because it’s rated at 1000w that really just means the voice coil and circuitry is rated to handle that, but with the 300w driving it right now, it’s more volume than I’ll ever need. My advice is try driving it with a smaller amp if you have one first and see if it provides enough sound for your applications. As far as the sound quality; running it on no speaker tuning, just a crossover it is gonna sound pretty muddy and sloppy, you can’t expect jbl cabinet tuning at this price point. However this problem can easily be fixed with a little eq tuning magic. I have a dbx PA2 and ran the auto eq room correction, and used the pa2’s graphic eq to fine tune the sound I was looking for, and let me tell you, after dialing it all in, the imagine of the system is beautiful. I get comments all the time about how it sounds! The build seems very professional and quality, I have no complaints, it feels as sturdy as my JBL jrx215s and they cost triple what these cost. I have no issues setting this right in the foh on stage.Bottom line, get it. You can’t touch anything else this size for this price even used. The trade off is, you have to spend a little time doing some eq magic to get it dialed in right. But once you do this baby sings!

First off, I'm not a DJ or Musician. I'm just a guy who likes clean sound at more than enough volume. I've been into music ever since I can remember, thanks to the bands that practiced at our house when I was a kid.My garage stereo is a pair of 15" Peavey two way speakers, ran from a Peavey 300w RMS X 2 @8ohm, 10 channel (or is it 8...) amplified mixer. I got this setup used for little more than the cost of this sub. While this provided plenty of volume, the bass just didn't hit as hard as I wanted, and I don't want to blow these adding bass with the EQ. Ive been looking at higher end subs for a while now, but just didn't want to drop 500 to a 1000 bucks on one, or double for two.I decided... against some of the reviews, to give this sub a shot, 165 bucks, why not? I have a Behringer NU3000DSP, bridged, and according to three independent tests it puts out close to 1100 watts @8ohm. I paired that with this sub, and wow! (Had it for a week now, and have pretty well put it threw it's paces.) I've only played it at about half volume for a few hours so far, but it sounds really good at this point. I can't wait until it's broke in. I played music from Supertramp to Eminem, to Pantera, ZZ Top, Metallica, Heart and more, and it really adds the depth I was looking for. I can't compare it sonically to a 1000 dollar sub because I dont have one.Mine arrived solid and undamaged. I can't speak to how it will hold up to continuous trips in and out of a truck, van, or trailer, but it did survive UPS... It IS a thin cabinet. I've used thicker MDF on a pair of 5.25" subs I built for a tailgate stereo. I have to think that if it's moved with care and not thrown around, it should be okay, I wouldn't want to drop it though. For MY intended purpose, I'm completly happy at this point. My wallet isn't that much lighter, and I will probably get another one so the first doesn't get lonely. I'm not sure that I actually need another, but its better to turn the volume on a pair a pair down than to turn up a single to the point of failure. The cardboard box was mangled up pretty bad, but the cabinet and speaker is fine. It had 1/2 to 3/4" foam sheets all around it, with thick foam and plastic corner protection taped on each of the four corners. A thicker box, or maybe a box inside another would be better.Considering the price paid with the performance I've experienced so far, I have no regrets. Its like the $29 pair of binoculars I bought instead of the $130 pair I was considering. I can read the "No Trespassing" and "No Hunting" signs across the field at the edge of my neighbors woods from 650 yards away. Why do I need a pair that cost 4-5 times more? For MY intended use, I don't. Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide and happy listening.

Still Amazed that they can make an 18 inch speaker and put it in a strong well made enclosure and deliver it for well less than $200. I spent some time adjusting crossover points and it does appear to be able to put out much higher frequencies than it would ever have too. My particular system only needs this for below about 100 HZ. I’m still letting it break in awhile before I put anything too loud through it. I have an Amp bridged mono at 800 watts and it’s not breaking a sweat. Sounds Very musical. The only issue is the packaging isn’t strong enough for the way UPS throws stuff around. When the truck pulled up I helped the driver unload the box. The box was seriously messed up and I am sure the last “drop” off the truck would have done major damage. The straps were loose and the corners were a mess. But the speaker survived. It’s a Great sounding speaker and I am Very happy with the product. I have wave generators and test equipment but just used my ears to tune it to the rest of my system. It’s unreal at the price point.
