Your cart is empty.This tools is Titanium Nitride coated for increased performance and resistance to edge wear. The cutting edge on these tools will outlast Sorby normal tools by a minimum of three fold. Spend less time sharpening and more time turning. This tool is sharpened with a standard grind. Milled from solid round bar stock providing mass and stability. Made from high speed steel, properly hardened and tempered. And titanium coated. Without the titanium coating, the steel a sharpened edge about six times longer than carbon steel and resist "blued" softening from overheating during grinding or from heavy turning. It comes with hard White Ash handle and brass ferrule. Handle is 10” long with tool being 6-1/2" in length. Overall length is 16-1/2".

Nice gouge, good steel.. I use a 3/8" spindel gouge a lot. One of my go to tools. So far I really like this one . Not sure the coating makes a different time will tell. So far so good.

It's from Robert Sorby, do you really need to say much more?This is really a quality tool that does it's job and does it well. This is especially good for those intricate jobs where you're turning smaller pieces or need to do fine work on a larger piece. It holds an edge extremely well, even when working with harder woods like Purpleheart, Lingum Vitae and so forth. You'll need to touch them up from time to time on larger projects, but not as often as some other brands.I like the length on these, even on my smaller lathe(10x22") they're a good size that allows you to make your cuts but not feel like you don't have control of your gouge. My one issue is the handle and it's like that with all the Sorby wooden handles, at least for me, and that is they're not that comfortable. I have larger hands so these handles seem a bit small for me. Usually I don't buy pre-handled tools, I'll buy the ones that you can change the handles on and make my own. However the price for this tool was too attractive to let something like a handle stand in the way. I can always cut the handle off and make a new one.Well worth the money in my book and not because it's a Sorby but because it's a good tool with an attractive price.

Excellent product, huge upgrade from my HF tools. Still unsure how well the Ti coating will hold up, only time will tell. Nice and sharp.
