There is nothing like the force capacity of a properly sized bolt. So, when Threaded Inserts came into the market, they allowed us to create fixed receptacle where bolts could be used. For example, for my latest project I am sandwiching wood with two outside layers of 1/8 " aluminum. While the aluminum could be threaded, the thickness of the metal would put in question the strength of the threads. I also could have used nuts as part of the structure, but these would have made the design much more complex to build. So, the Threaded Inserts became the absolutely best alternative. And, the fact that I bought the stainless steel version is an even better feature. The Threaded Inserts attached very well. They are solidly mounted, they served to strengthen the aluminum piece and will allow for maximum durability. Because of the hardness of the stainless metal, I had to use the large crimping tool, though.
