This tool generally works, but I regret my decision for a few reasons. First is the lack of a case or on-tool storage for all of the mandrels. I'm going to have to devise a way to store all of the parts. Second, it's metric only, and I'll eventually want to use imperial nuts. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the tool or the nuts or just a general limitation of small rivet nuts, but I stripped the first M3 nut I used by squeezing too hard. I think the mandrel is still fine and it was only the nut that stripped out.

The manual rivnut tool is incredibly easy to use and adjust for various applications. It comes with more rivnuts than I could ever need, which is a nice bonus. I used it to replace two rusted-out captivated nuts on my Jeep windshield, and it worked flawlessly. The tool is solid, and the results were just what I needed. Overall, it’s a great buy for anyone needing a reliable and efficient way to install rivnuts, highly recommend!

Although this is a review of a free product, I give you my word that my reviews will always be unbiased and truthful.I have been wanting to pick up a rivnut tool and rivnuts for some time now. I figured I'd buy a set the next time I needed one, but then I had this come across my Amazon Vine feed, and figured I'd check it out. This set arrived very quickly and was well packaged. It included a hinged plastic box with dividers filled with various sized Metric rivnuts. The included tool seems to be of good quality. It looks like an oversized rivet tool, which isn't a big surprise since that is essentially what it is. It has a nice black wrinkle finish that should hold up well for occasional use. I like the rivet tool style as opposed to the two handed scissor like tool as you can get this one into tighter spots. Overall, I'm quite pleased with it!

The worst thing about this otherwise OK tool is that the manufacturer did not provide the hole size, or, better yet, the US drill bit size. Lacking this information, I measured the outside of the M6 rivet and arrived at 3/8", which did not work. What worked, barely, in the end, was 25/64" but it still took huge effort to get the rivet nut in place. My hunch is that an even larger hole would make the installation easier, otherwise I'll end up using a mallet on the tool handle, probably decreasing its life. The smallest Metric size bolt I had on hand was an M6, so I "installed" it on a piece of scrap aluminum. That rivet is hard set, and accepts the M6 bolt. My first project for this tool will be to install a chassis ground wire on a trailer whose lights need to be replaced. It's a useful tool, but a better manual would not break the manufacturer's heart or budget.

I only recently learned of the existence of rivet nuts. This kit comes with:- The tool, with a "spindle removal tool" holding it closed- A set of mandrels for M3, M4, M5, M6 and M8- A plastic storage box with a decent number of nuts in each of the above sizes (but only 20 M8)- Instruction sheet (there are also instructions in the storage box)In my photo you can see the back side of two M6 rivet nuts, one not installed and one installed. With the M6 nut the tool requires quite a bit of pressure to operate, but it's straightforward enough. The spindle removal tool holds the handles closed, which makes it easier to remove the mandrel.I am deducting two star for three reasons:- The tool and mandrels don't have a storage case. The spindle removal tool can be used to hold the tool closed but is easily lost, while the mandrels are all 2-piece parts in skimpy zip lock bags.- Mandrels for other tools don't appear to be compatible with this tool, so UNC / UNF sizes of rivet nuts are not an option.- The M3 mandrel, which I've used only a few times, is already showing signs of wear.

This is a handy tool for installing the rivnuts. There are ways to do this without a tool, but it is much easier to do with this tool. Unlike the larger version of these tools that have a central head, this version allows you to get in tighter spots since you can get the head of the tool closer to an obstruction and still operate the handles. I can see this being convenient if you have to do this inside a cramped area like an engine bay.The selection of included rivnuts is good, and there are quite a few of each size except the largest ones that only include 20. They are plain steel with yellow chromate finish, so mildly rust resistant, but I would not use them in a weather exposed application. Another note is that the larger rivnuts need a thicker panel to grab, since they don't collapse as much as the smaller rivnuts. The installation tool itself is ok, and it is just an upsized riveter. The mandrells all looked to be well machined and of good steel. The only issue I saw is the pivot point where the tool pulls the mandrells could be subject to wear since it is plan steel riding on a chromed steel part. The longevity of the tool is questionable.Overall a good value, since the rivnuts by themselves cost almost as much as this entire kit.

Rivnuts are a pretty basic concept. Use leverage to squeeze a nut into a hole from one side very similar to a mushrooming type of drywall anchor. The design of the nuts, with a ribbed collar that can collapse upon itself, is the fundamental principle involved. With a manual tool like this one, a bit of hand strength is needed. For the smaller sizes this won't pose a problem for most users. At the top end of the sizes, M8, this will take a bit more pressure. Again, there's nothing wrong with the manual tool and it is well built and sturdy. There are plenty of the smaller size of rivnuts but as the metric size increases, there are fewer of them. This is OK for me since most of my work will need M3/M4/M5. The only real thing missing from this set is a case to keep the tool and all the various sized parts together, but not enough to deduct any stars.
