This product is exactly what I needed to line some railing planters. It was easy to mark on with a chalk marker and cut well with craft scissors. The fabric is similar to the felt used in making the planting grow bags. It's very sturdy. The package contained two rolls of liner, each one measuring 16" X 80"I want to use some of it to cut mats to place under some pots on a balcony shelf. This might slow some of the drainage so there isn't heavy dripping.I'm happy with this product and the price is very reasonable.

This is a strong, good-looking alternative to coconut hull liners. It also does a good job in spots where you would put wood chips or whatever to keep the weeds down and hold in moisture. They are dense and resilient, easy to cut and prevent the soil from slipping through. I will use these from now on, and recommend them.

I acquired this liner with several potential uses in mind. I would like to see if I can sprout seeds for microgreens on it. There is a picture of this, though there is not much text about it. We shall see. I also want to line containers with it. I grow potatoes in buckets and have drilled holes in them. I currently have a piece of the thin landscaping fabric on the bottom of the bucket to keep soil from running out and to keep water somewhat from running out. I am suspicious that the water still runs out too fast and I am hoping that this thicker material helps that. I also have some large planters on my deck that I never cut a hole in the bottom because I didn't want to risk dirty water running out and staining my deck and also risking the pots drying out quickly and having to water every day. So instead I created a different problem when it rains a lot and it does not evaporate fast enough, then I waterlog my plants. I'm hoping I can now poke out the holes on the bottom and cover with this fabric to modulate the flow of water so it does run out as needed, but not too fast and mostly not too dirty. Lastly, I may reline some of my deck planter boxes to replace coco mats because these also don't retain water very well and the planters dry out super fast and the mats are really falling apart and take up much of the interior of the planter. Not sure these will fit or be able to be cut to fit well, but I feel like the material is much better and hopeful this works. On inspection, it seems a good quality, decent thickness and should hold up.

Riare black felt liner came in the measurements that correlate to the size of a rose bed being created in my front yard. After finding some heirloom shrub roses and measuring the planting area, it was as if that black felt totally existed for my gardening use. After it arrived, the soft cushiness of the product made me smile. It feels like tilled soil without the dirt. Two rolls arrived that when cut in half, would cover the portion of the rose bed reserved for later growth and would be purposed with annuals or a ground cover until the shrub roses matured. As anyone gardening knows, things take some time, and weeds will grow if you let them. Prepped the bed this warm weekend in North Texas and marked my rectangular swatch of rose plantation, where substances that optimize rose growth will be mixed in. Next to each rose soil swatch lies soft Riare black felt that has a thickness. I used some garden stakes to hold it in place. It will maintain the bed preparation until shrub rose establishment and then mulching. Material will last for a while, so once finished with that assignment, I will move it to some baskets on the fence for a flower fencing display to hold the soil and moisture in polka dot style. Quick, effective, and easy to use.

I use pieces of this liner for the base of open pots to stop substrate from falling out of larger holes. It is easy to cut and work with. It allows water to pass through it. The black color is nice but it catches hair and dust easily and I suspect it will happily grow a layer of moss over time with holding plants. I cannot see mine once it is installed but that is a problem another use may have.

Riare 16x80 Inch Black Felt Planter Liner is densely woven, which suggests it will hold up better than loosely woven coco-liners. By summer's end, the birds have usually made a wreck of our open wire baskets with coco-liners, but it seems the birds will have more difficulty in trying to pull pieces of material from this felt liner. The felt is fairly thick, sturdy, and cannot be torn by hand. The liner readily absorbs water which should aid in retaining moisture for hanging baskets and other planter pots that tend to dry out more quickly. Excess water should readily pass through. It's breathability and resistance to molding can only be judged through use, but by appearance, I expect it to fair well.

This material is very tightly felted with no loose fibers or fuzzy texture at all. The felting process has produced a dense, flat fabric. This thin (less than ⅛”), stiff fabric does not easily conform to concave or convex shapes. To produce linings for shapes such as baskets the fabric will need to be clipped or dart folded, much as you could do in dressmaking.Cutting with kitchen shears certainly is possible but may be a challenge for those with carpal tunnel issues. I found a rotary cutter with a used blade to be an easier approach.Wanting to know if this product would absorb and retain moisture, I cut a 1” strip and slipped it into a glass of water. It does collect water, but the fluid is not absorbed into the fiber cells. Realizing that there are no natural fibers in this felt, I also tested it with a flame which produced instant melting. All of this means that this product will not easily break down and must be disposed of in trash rather than composting.Riare 16x80 Inch Black Felt Planter Liner has a number of possible uses directly in the garden and in containers. This product would make nice collars for cutworm control. I have some square ceramic planters whose interior glaze I would like to protect and plan to use this liner for that purpose.
