Let me start with the bad, Overnite shipping was late, so I missed out on using this for its intended purpose…Los Angeles.NO USB MINI CABLE IN BOX!!!DOES NOT COME WITH USB MINI CABLE!!!Other than that, its awesome. I bought this to check Freq's in my area before I have to do a job so I know what the RF in the air is. This item is invaluable for any sound mixer. It looks very sophisticated and technical, very impressive to a client. Do not let that fool you, the unit it not complicated to setup or operate. The software is intuitive and well designed.Buy one already!!!

I was an RF engineer for Texas Instruments for 40 years. This analyzer is amazing. I was having a problem with one of my RF mics in my church and I needed a spectrum analyzer to isolate the interference. When I worked for a company with infinite resources, I would sign out an analyzer and find the problem. No way I have access to test equipment now that I am retired. Try to find an intermittant without one. So I gave this a try. It operates flawlessly. >100 db dynamic range. It works as advertiized. Buy the model that goes to 2.2GHz. Lovely

As a production sound mixer, if I don't get my radio frequencies on clean channels, the resulting issues can cause problems that cost tens of thousands of dollars for film and TV productions. This saves my hide on a daily basis, with features my wireless receivers don't have, like peak hold and the ability to scan outside the receiver's range (for activity that could cause intermodulation problems). Plus, it makes me look cool when I'm setting up for the day, and everyone always asks about it. Things like that shouldn't have any impact on my job, but looking cool and rarely causing problems probably doesn't hurt. The only drawback is that the software does not want to work on my Macbook Pro (yes I read the instructions and installed the extension thing, it still doesn't work). But I can't fault the company for this, as the software is a third party product that seems to no longer be supported.

The RF Explorer is perfect for finding the spectrum of frequencies for wireless mics. We purchased 10 units and use these in hotel ballrooms all over the U.S. to make sure we do not have interference from other customers in the hotel.I rated this lower since it has a litho battery, has firmware updates, and works with Mac or PC. BUT, how do you do this without a USB -> USB mini cable? The unit doesn't come with a cable so how is it ready to use if the battery is dead. With 50% of the units, the battery was dead and needed a charge. The unfortunate part is that I couldn't find anyone who sold the cable with the unit. Bad customer service!

This is an excellent handheld spectrum analyzer for the money. I’m using it primarily for the ISM 902 - 928 MHz Band, and adjacent frequencies to observe potential interference. As an out of the box test, I set my radio to transmit on 914 MHz, and found the resolution on the RF Explorer to be very accurate. The tuning is very intuitive, as there are only a few buttons to choose from. I would highly recommend this analyzer to those who need a very basic, portable and inexpensive device to take out into the field or do light work in the lab.Update: I’ve decided to purchase the Touchstone Pro software for $49.00 after trying the free version. The software is very intuitive, and the paid version allows for a lot of added functionality such as data logging, pdf reports, and extra modes and charts. If you need to show your work or reference field work at later date to see if an RF environment has changed, I would highly recommend purchasing the Touchstone Pro software to enhance the use of this spectrum analyzer.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Running 8 sets of in-ear monitors and 8 radio mics at our church. Got this unit to avoid interference with overlapping frequencies. Plots out all the frequencies in real time and allowed me to separate the mic and in-ear frequencies to avoid conflicts. I was doing it trial and error, mostly error until I got this.Definitely download the software and use it instead of the units small screen. Looks absolutely amazing on a widescreen monitor. Great unit!

Used this with a Mac, works wonderfully, the Pro software bundle is worth it. It compares reasonably well to more expensive machines such as Agilent in the basic testing. It's small & cheap enough to give yo all of our test & field trial engineers. Great for uncovering problems.
