Needed calibrated right off the bat, but once it I did that it has worked great. Gets a fast reading, and hits the depths needed to get temp in middle of the pile. Do recommend!

I moved to a cooler location and wanted to expand on my vegetable gardening, used to live where the season was long and you could fairly easily grow a bountiful harvest. Now cooler, shorter growing season so wanted to become more familiar with how fast the soil warms up and how to position both my fiber growing bags i am trying this year and the metal raised beds i bought.so far, they do as advertise, how accurate they are i can't tell you for sure but i think accurate enough and help you get a feel for your soil temperatures and when to plant various crops, especially warm season ones like tomatoes, beans, peppers, etc.

I wanted to keep track of the ground temperature, 8-10" down, where I planted a bunch of tree seedlings. This is working well. It is sturdy made and adjusts quickly for each spot I check. I have been careful not to push it into the ground by the face. My guess is it will last many years.

It would be nice if directions were to accompany the thermometer. After a search online, I followed the directions only to discover the instrument seemed to already be calibrated. Now there's a doubt in my mind about whether readings will be accurate.Product easy to read and use; arrived quickly from seller.
