I recently purchased this Reolink Smart 5MP 8 Channel Home Security System with 4 - 5MP Cameras for my in-laws. This Kit comes with the 8 Channel NVR , 4 - 5MP turret cameras and 4 - CAT5E cords that are long enough for most applications. Setup was straight forward as the Reolink App makes the process extra easy. Just install your cameras in the desired location, plug in your CAT5E cords to the camera and back of the NVR, Power on the Unit, setup as password, set a timezone and scan the QR code to get up and running. The only change I made with the app is changing the 24/7 recording to motion onl.I own a similar Amcrest system and what I'm most surprised about the Reolink system is...-Extremely Easy to Setup-Cameras Have a great Picture and night vision hands down beats those of the equivalent 5MP Amcrest Cameras.-Cameras have higher FPS then equivalent Amcrest cameras.-Cameras are of equal construction quality, however Amcrest mounting seems more sturdy as cameras lock in.-Cameras have build in AI and price points blow away Amcrest-Reolink App is much more intuitive and easier to use-Reolink NVR is more responsive, especially when playing back video-Setup is a snap, cameras are automatically setup by the system.-Better price points then Amcrest, especially given the Reolink Features especially on for add on cameras.

I bought this system to put in my moms house that was going to be unoccupied. She needed to move due to medical issues but we weren't ready to sell the house. I live in another state and couldn't be checking in on the house regularly and I was worried about it sitting there with no one in it so I bought this system and set it up so I could keep an eye on things from my house. It has been fantastic, everything is still working perfectly several months later and I haven't had to tweak or reboot or mess with ANYTHING in that time. That is exactly what I wanted in a system and after researching many options I chose this Reolink system and I am glad I did.PROS:1) RELIABLE. Like I said, this was my top priority. There is no one physically at the property to be rebooting cameras or messing with settings. I needed something I could set up and then it would just work and this system has achieved that goal.2) Local storage, so no monthly cloud subscription required. This was also a huge priority for me. I don't want to be paying $10 or whatever per month and having all of the video sitting on the cloud. I wanted it stored locally, and have the ability to pull up and review the video remotely on my phone or computer. Again, this system meets all of those needs.3) Good picture quality, in day and night.4) Easy setup. Instructions were clear, and everything I needed was included. I did buy a couple of extra 100 ft ethernet cables because I knew I was going to be placing a couple of cameras pretty far from the NVR box. I placed two outside at the front and back door, and then two inside.5) Playback is easy, I check in on my phone regularly and its easy to locate the moments when there is someone at the door, etc. It can identify pets vs day/night transitions vs people and puts a little icon in that spot on the timeline so you can go right to it and see what it was.CONS:1) The cameras are POE only, so you have to run an ethernet to each camera (can't be wi-fi only) but at least that one ethernet cable provides the data and the power connection. However, if you are going to be installing cameras outside or somewhere else where it is going to be challenging to get an ethernet cable to keep that in mind. There is no option to connect the camera to the NVR using wi-fi only. I will say though, that having the cameras be POE adds to the reliability. It means there are no concerns about the wifi signal being weak or your wifi router doing something screwy and the camera dropping connection.2) The adapter cable where you plug the ethernet cable into the camera is unnecessarily bulky. It's already hard enough to get a really "clean look" on these cameras since they are wired, unless you're willing to drill a lot of holes and run the cables behind your walls. Having a bulky connector on top of that just makes it look more unsightly. Luckily for my use case, I didn't care too much about the appearance since no one is even living in the house. I just needed it to work.BOTTOM LINE: If you want a camera system that can be hands off, and allows you to remotely view the recorded video, and doesn't require a monthly cloud based storage subscription... this is probably the best system you can currently buy for your money and it comes with everything you need.

We are very happy with our Reolink security camera system with the NVR. We got the system for some added security at home and to allow us to keep our eye on the dogs while we are away. We had a hard time figuring out why the back of our couch had started smelling like dog because we always block the whole couch when we are away. As you can see from the first picture, this creature laughed at our blockade and made her way to the back of the couch. Mystery solved. The system is very easy to use and intuitive to install and set up. I really appreciated the drilling template provided with each camera. This made it very easy to ensure that each camera was properly secured and that the cable hole was large enough. The plug and play nature of the cameras and NVR made it super easy for the total installation. The hardest part for us was figuring out the exact locations we wanted to mount the cameras and making sure we could route the CAT6 cable to them. The provided cables were all long enough to reach from one side of the house to the other (though some are a little snug). I was very happy that the provided cables had the length we needed and was glad to see that further distances are possible with just a longer run of cable. The NVR interface is a little clunky without a keyboard, but it is very nice to not require a keyboard for operation. The app is very streamlined and works great on both iPhone and Android. There is a slight lag with remote viewing, but is not noticeable in most cases. This likely has as much to do with our internet at home and wherever we are accessing the feeds remotely as with the system. The image quality is great in both daylight and IR modes. I have noticed (as other mentioned) that the motion detection is very sensitive, to the point that a leaf moving in the wind on our fiddle leaf fig set it off. I also like that you can adjust the motion zones and 'blackout' some areas to limit the detection of motion to the specific field of view you want. Finally, the customer service is excellent. When I first set up the system I appeared to have an issue with one of the cameras IR lights not functioning. It turned out to just be a setting I had changed during the initial set up, by mistake, for that channel/camera, but the service agent worked through several possible issues with me to make sure there was not a product failure. Overall, we are very impressed with this system and are planning to buy some additional cameras to add to the original four, for further coverage of our house. I would and have recommend Reolink to friends and family looking for a camera system for their homes.
