High quality and reliable fit... The thicker coating on this model of head gives a softer tone...very nice...

I wanted a mellower sound than made by the head that came with my used Morgan Monroe MBB-500 banjo. I play a nylon string guitar and a tenor ukulele, so that should clue you in, and while I like bluegrass to watch, clearly I'm more of a morose Irish dark toned sweet-sadness minor keys moody kind of sound maker. This Fiberskyn 3 head with ghs PF160 medium strings and a Buckeye Banjo medium weight bridge gave me just the sound I wanted and freed me from my obsessive hours on the internet looking for the perfect mellow resonator banjo. I had wanted a Deering Eagle II because with its wooden tone ring I expected it would give me the sound I had in my mind, the sound I now am getting for the price of a head and a bridge instead of the $2,000 plus dollars I had been tempted to put out (I still would like one of those)I'm also a tinkerer, and completely took apart the banjo, cleaned, waxed, adjusted everything, did everything twice, the correct way the second time, learned everything about banjo take-apart on youtube, so you'd have to do the same or get a professional to put it on for you. A professional might sigh and shake his head if he saw my results, but I sure love it now. Even major chords if played gently with my bare fingers can sound as soulful as rolling around in minor chords. I recommend this banjo head for those of you with a similar personality profile as me. I also have an entry-level Gretsche openback and it has a REMO head that looks like Fiberskyn though it's not labelled that way, but as you know an openback is already a mellower sound, so maybe this head would work well on an openback too. Have fun.
