Raw copper is drawn to meet specific size requirements based on the National Electrical Manufacturer’s Association (NEMA) standards. This magnet wire meets the NEMA MW-79-C standard for operating temperature (155°C/311°F) and insulation makeup. The insulation is made from modified Polyurethane, and protects the coiled wire from short-circuiting.

Most pickups these days do use polycoated wire of either 42 or 43 gauge. This intermediate size (42.5) sounds like 42, but builds resistance faster for a good level of output at less self-capacitance, but without being as frustratingly hair-fine as 43AWG.

Excellent wire. Worked perfectly. Great price. Pickups sound amazing. I'll probably redo my other stratocasters pickups too. I Will definitely purchase this product again when I run out.
