I do not think you can beat this level of quality at the price point. ($169). I own a lot of fly rods and I've been flyfishing for over 20 years. I own so much more expensive rods, but the Classic Trout fishes like a much higher end rod. As someone who prefers the classic feel of a slower (moderate) action, this rod is a joy to fish with. Reminiscent of the older Orvis full flex series. The rod excels at casting dries on light tippet, but also turns over a weighted indicator right quite nicely. The 7'6" 3 weight has become my favorite small streams rod.

These rods are beautiful and functional. I have now owned and used 3 CTs and all have met or exceeded expectations. Moderate action, simple and easy to cast out to all reasonable trout fishing distances, and a pleasure to fight fish on. I like these better than TFO rods, and almost as much as my high end rods that cost over $500. I broke the tip while walking through the woods ( my fault) and Reddington insisted that I warranty the rod despite my open admission of fault and willingness to purchase a new tip. Look at the 4 weights in 8’6 or 9’. For tail water and small stream fishing, you might never need another rod.Jim

For the money this rod is great, it’s a lot of fun with 8 to 12” trout. It’s a great looking rod, no blemishes. I like the line up dots they do make a difference. It casts nice, I have a cheaper line on it but I’m just getting back into it again. I paired it with a 3w Redington reel, it seems to be balanced pretty good. I would recommend it for a starter or anyone that wants a great travel rod.

Purchased this rod as a beginner. Researched with experienced fly fisherman and decided it’s a great mid-range rod that will serve me going forward. Very light, looks great and can’t wait to start to practice.Good all around Rob for trout and small bass

I ordered the 8 foot 4-weight version of this rod a while back and since have taken it out several times to my favorite local spots. I have it paired with Redington's Zero reel (also recommended), which makes it quite a lightweight setup. The rod works precisely as advertised--the moderate-fast action isn't anything special, but it's as easy to cast as any other rod out there. When I got the 480-4 model I was anticipating to use it mostly for dry flies. It being a 4-weight, this rod makes it easier to delicately present dries. But I've also found that this rod is suitable for pretty much any conventional trout fishing method. I've run some deep, heavy nymph rigs on this rod and had no trouble casting some lighter streamers. As an added benefit, 4wt line to me seems easier to mend. I might mention that due to the shorter 8' length (as opposed to the default 9') it felt substantially tougher to cast this rod beyond ~30-40ft. That's fine with me, but if you like to cast farther out I'd bump it up to a 9' rod. I'll also add that you're not losing a whole lot of fighting power on this rod. I've hooked a few fatties and it gets the job done. It's just light enough to make smaller fish a bit more fun.Overall this is a great rod for the hobbyist angler--especially if you get it on sale. The value is tremendous. The 480-4 model is a good pick if you want a general trout rod to use on medium-sized rivers and streams. So far Redington is 2/2 for me on excellent products at a price point.

I bought the 4 wt version primarily for trout fishing on my annual trip to the beautiful mountains of Utah. I currently live near Houston, Texas, however, and couldn't wait to try this rod out, so I have been putting it to work at least a couple of times a week for the last 4 months or so on the nearby bass ponds.I LOVE THIS ROD! I've been fly-fishing since I was 16 years old, around 24 years or so now, and this rod is an absolute pleasure to cast, and very accurate. I love the moderate action, and I can feel the rod loading with every cast. Despite it being a 4 wt, I have tied up some size 8 topwater bass flies, and some size 8 weighted wooly buggers, and this rod handles both just fine, and has landed some nice bass, up to about 3 lbs (which is a blast on this light weight rod). I have been able to deliver these flies with precision on every cast out to at least 40-50 ft. Beyond that, accuracy starts to deteriorate a little and the rod seems a little over-extended, but this is a moderate action rod designed for short casts, so I would say that for what it's designed for, it is an exceptional rod! I have also been using this rod to teach my 11 year old daughter to cast with, because with the moderate action, light weight and 9' length, it is perfect for teaching young kids to cast with. She has been doing well, and has been catching some nice little panfish with it, and now when we go fishing, she always wants to use this fly rod. It seems I'm going to have to get her one of her own now, because I want to use it too!Highly recommended trout rod!

May be I was unlucky? I was casting a size 16 dry fly and the fly hit the tip of the rod and broke the tip!!!
