bicycle rear camera

Are you tired of constantly looking over your shoulder to check traffic when you’re commuting by bike? PTAVLO BIKE CAMERA could be a solid solution to your problem. The BIKE rear view camera is seat post mounted, so it always shows you what you want to see – what’s behind you. It’s a lot more than that too…

cycling camera

The rear bike camera sends a live continuous feed of the view from its seat post mounted position, to the LCD display on your handlebar. If a vehicle approaches you from behind, you’ll see it on the screen. For cycle commuters, it’s like having eyes in the back of your head.

I have a sit-down electric scooter I ride since I don't drive anymore. I'm an older senior, along with hearing loss, and don't have the greatest balance. So, turning my head to look to the left or right to see if there is something faster in the lane I want to change into isn't safe for me.I added rechargeable turn signals front and rear that Bluetooth connects to the controller mounted on the handlebar. I was simply exploring other add-ons when I came across this camera and screen to see what's behind you. I absolutely love it! Durability and visibility? I live on the top floor of an apartment building. Since I can't detach the battery from my scooter, I can't leave it outside chained up to something. Going up the stairs is no real problem, but coming down is another story. Even using the handbrakes to control the rate of going down the stairs causes a large amount of jarring. Unless I happen to hit the viewing screen with my hand, it doesn't change position at all. Going down a very bumpy road doesn't cause any vibrations in the camera that shows and distorts what you see on the screen. One of the things that makes this great, for me, is it has an onscreen battery indicator so I don't have to connect it to a charger every time I go out. As other reviewers have said, putting it on the scooter was a breeze.Tip: depending on where you mount the camera or viewing screen, along with differences in manufacturing, the mounting points for the camera and screen could have skinny or fat diameters. The designers have adjusters on the inside of the clamps to allow you to mount by leaving them in place for skinny or take 1 or both adjusters out for fat. If this sounds confusing, it will be readily apparent when you start mounting this system. The only thing I wish for is that the camera had a wider view. Like a car, you have blind spots and it would still put you in danger of being struck while changing lanes. But, I have found that I do hear engine noises (gas or diesel) if a vehicle is close and probably in the blind spot. If the traffic is heavy, I make my left turns which would involve changing lanes to make the turn, I instead use the pedestrian buttons on the poles of signal lights and crosswalks to get turned in the direction I want to go. A little longer to get onto the road or trail I want but safer.

The camera works great. The field of view is fairly wide and avoids the distortions of a convex mirror. I see cars behind me much more easily than with a mirror. Also, the camera doesn't vibrate like those convex mirrors on a stick.I haven't had it long enough to need to charge the battery. I have had a couple 5 minute trips on the bike with it on over the course of 2 weeks and still have 4/4 bars on the charge. The install instructions where clear. The installation process was easy. The cable was plenty long to go from the monitor to the camera. The Velcro ties held the cables neatly and firmly.Because I had a basket on the back of the bicycle, mounting on the seat post blocked the view. I had to get a little creative to secure it behind the basket, but it works just fine there.

This was a big upgrade to my side view mirror. While driving my electric bike sometimes I would miss a car coming up from behind us because I didn't catch it because it was hard to glance over at the mirror and adjust my position to see behind me. The camera is now mounted in a cluster of bike screens and my cell phone which I use for navigation. Spotting vehicles has become much easier. The instructions stated to mount the camera on the seat post, but that area was crowded and I was able to mount it on the rear of my bike, this is great for two things, I can carry things on my luggage rack and still use the camera and gives better view of what's behind me. Set up was a snap and I was able to run a cable from the camera to the usb port on my bike so the camera is charging when I ride my bike. In the picture in the yard, I point out how easy it is to see the blades of a wind mill in the yard. The picture is crystal clear. The pictures actually don't do this camera justice.I am very happy with my purchase.

So if you like to bicycle like i do ,This Ptavlo camera may be for you.I had to charge this unit for full battery level..(manual says 4 hrs for full charge, but It didnt take to long since there was a partial charge when received,Mounting was easy and there plenty of wire to mount camera on back of bike over 9 feet of cord.Buttons for adjustment are on right side back....on...off tint brightness etc,There a 4.3 inch color monitor with this unit,I would have like a 5 inch monitor but then would have more to shake in the monitor when riding. The 4.3 did have some shake when riding on some roads and i had to turn the brightness down during the day to my likeness but now for the real test of this camera at night which i do ride my bicycle at night alot,I do have full front lights on my bicycle but this camera has a lights under the camera which is nice for cars to see you but help in the total darkness picture ,The picture brightness had to be turned up to full when in a total darkness, picture was ok,But if during fast turns or riding fast sometime picture was fuzzy till it adjusted. So i do have mirrors (2) on my bike but his camera is a nice extra when riding to be safe from some drivers on the road today !
