Good and bad. Once installed it functions as advertised. It is easy to use and solid. The installation however, was a different story. The item was packaged well. The steel brackets didn't fit together as it came out of the box, the fist two bolts wouldn't go through and the rest of the holes wouldn't line up so it couldn't be installed. It took some massaging on a large vise with a long pipe for leverage to bend the bracket into alignment. After an 1 hr of working with it it was aligned and would install on the truck.

Many of the holes don’t line up and require drilling or grinding. I had to spend over a hour getting the holes on the bracket clearanced so the bolts could be installed. For the price this shouldn’t have to be done. They need to fix the problem in the manufacturing process, not dump it onto the customer. The instruction paper is a joke, why even bother, just tell the customers to go search YouTube. After it is finally installed it works good.

This is a review for an AMP Research BedStep for a 2021 F150 XLT with 8 foot bed, side exhaust, Heavy Duty payload package, and Max Towing package. The instructions were useless, but a YouTube video from American Trucks was helpful. The cardboard box was beat up, but the parts were well packaged, seemed new with nothing opened, and there were no missing parts. But the two frame pieces both had their side ear flaps slightly off 2-3 degrees. So instead of being at 90 degree right angles, they were either over or under, which meant they didn't meet flush when the two pieces were bolted together. This had the undesired effect of causing the two pieces to misalign so that the two large holes for the two large attachment bolts were not lined up despite how loose the flap bolts were. This prevented attachment to the truck. The workaround was to do some mild sledgehammer whacks with a vise to bring the flaps to perfect 90 degree angles and even then some Dremel tool grinding was required to "hole" out about 1/16" of material to make the large holes on each frame piece to play together and were perfectly round when combined, thus allowing attachment. Most people would have given up and just asked for a refund at this point. The other problem was the three Torx screws for attaching the step. Just screwing them in to the point where they are fully inserted was trashing the screw and Torx bit (DeWalt in my case). The T20 bit and the screw heads are stripped long before the third screw is inserted. There's no reason not to use a bigger screw.... T20 is pretty lame.

The build quality of this step is excellent, but the way it mounts to my F150 is flawed. It can easily swivel because it only attaches with one bolt.

Stop looking for cheap knock-off's, these steps are the best. Yes a bit expensive. I will put this on every truck I own going forward. You will need a thin-wall 24mm deep socket.

Love this step. I am pretty handy, and it was easy to install once I bought the correct tools. I am 5'6" and it is hard to get into the bed of my 2022 F150 with the tailgate down. Now with the step, it is easy, and it looks good too.AAA++, Don't even think about it. Just buy it, you will love it.

It's on the truck ( 2022 f150 ) and looks good. Seems to function fine.Instructions are disappointing. Diagrams leave a lot to interpretation. Assembled and disassembled multiple times to finally get it put together approximately. Disappointed that the step part is only held on by one bolt, when designed to have 2. A little apprehensive about how sturdy it's going to be in the long run because of this.

Installation is tedious; think and act deliberately during install. Also, nowhere is it mentioned but the first time this all squeezes together, it shapes the metal a bit. What I found is that the last bolt wouldn't fit, so I disassembled and reassembled and it fit together perfectly the second time. This is due to the slight bending of the metal plates on the first installation. You'll see what I mean when you install this yourself.Edit 4/2024: I depend on this step almost daily. The quality is superb, it is simply flawless. So grateful for this solution.Happy stepping!2022 F-150

Like the fit, the installation of the small bracket is not clearly indicated on the instruction sheet so some trial and error is required. In the end it is working great.
