I have chickens and goats, and every two years or so, I get a rat infestation in and under the barn it happens fast. There are 2 farms close by, and they seem to migrate around. Up in Vermont,so winters are long and the animals and hens stay indoors most of the months, the walls are insulated and the there is lots of space under the structure. a paradise for rats, hay, pieces of grain, bird feeders outdoors. I have dogs, I will not use a poison that would kill other animals or birds. This product controls them, and will kill the smaller offspring, it reduces a little over a half. They will not touch it if it is not scented up a bit. I use bacon or peanut butter, just dump it in a small pail and blend in a small amount and rub it on the pellets. I use it outdoors when it is dry and I put them in those plastic black take out containers, when I am sure its not going to rain for 48 hours. The little ones go right for it, the older rats let their babies be tasters, so it they notice the kill rate happening, they will not touch it. For the big ones I use a live multi catch trap, and then drive them a couple of miles away into the woods. The last remaining ones get the snap traps. which can only be put out late at night and brought in early so the chickens or dogs dont get killed or maimed. This 3 tier approach leaves me rat free for 2 years or so, then I hear my neighbor has them, and she won't use poison either. The bag says right on it that it is effective rat CONTROL, it's useful. Rats are smart survivors and are part of having livestock, and chickens especially. The indoor cats take care of the occasional mouse.

I like that it kills rats by drying them out. Because of this there are no bad odors. Rats are pretty smart characters and have found that the particularly large one are very wily. The only way to get them to eat is by crushing the poison and mixing it in some extremely stinky pet food.

On its own, I needed help getting this to work for me. I live near the water and we get river rats as well as mice. I put it out in areas I didn't want to worry about if my cat got to it, it wouldn't be as bad. Like under the fridge, and tight spots. I even put it out in piles in various areas that that I knew the rodents were moving towards, and it didn't get eaten much. I had to mix it with peanut butter to get it picked up more. Because I was having a pretty big problem due to extra rain, I had to make a concoction. I broke up bait blocks from a more powerful pesticide into crumbles and mix it with these pebbles and peanut butter. It was being gobbled up faster and the issue was taken care of so far. I'm keeping this baite out with a tiny bit of peanut butter in strategic spots just to be sure.

Bought some and mice would not eat it. Mixed it with some Peanut Butter and Parmesan Cheese and all gone in a couple days. Probably should be careful about attracting more mice, but since it wasn't being eaten, hopefully this will take care of my problem.

1) It works within a few days2) It continues to work weeks later3) Other animals won't die if they eat a rodent near my houseI had an ongoing rodent problem for months. I set up lots of snap traps baited with peanut butter, I would catch some, but they kept coming back. I hate the idea of poison, but there were rodent droppings showing up all over the house every week, no matter how tidy we were. I finally bought this and within a few days, no more droppings. I keep a small container of it out in the garage an it's been over a month and no more droppings.

Does not seem like the huge Rats in my DC neighborhood are eating this - I’ve tried to entice them by mixing in some bits of chicken skin but still….not sure if I would go for sawdust pellets either. I think I’ll continue my quest for the best rat poison. It must be out there some where.
