Ranger Tim Holtz distress ink pads are raised ink pads with acid free, non-toxic, fade resistant, water-based dye inks. They're perfect for new vintage, stained, and aged effects for crafters who are creating their Altered books, on scrapbook pages, cards and paper crafts projects. These colors produce a realistic, weathered look on paper, photos, decorative fibers and so much more. Ink pads are 2 inch square, and are stackable. Black soot - similar to black.

Bigger the better especially in Black and Real Brown. I use it for the edges of my canvases, blotting and blending colors. It keeps my hands clean but when I use my finger to blend a little soap and water and done without scrubbing.

I generally make and sell between 150 - 200 greeting cards per year, and I like to emboss the backgrounds, and then color them so that the raised pattern stands out. I tried all sorts of ink pads until I finally found this pumice stone Distress Ink pad from Tim Holz. It's advertised as creating "an aged look on papers, fibers, photos & more" which wasn't quite what I was looking for. But it also works very well for coloring a raised pattern after I've run my cardstock through my Cuttlebug with an embossing folder. Please see the customer image for a graduation card that I embossed with a graduation-themed folder, then colored with the pumice stone Distress Ink pad (the background to the main image). The only drawback to using this Distress Ink pad is that it takes a few minutes to dry.

I love these TIM HOLTZ distress inks. I didn't think I would, but there are so many ways to use these inks. They blend beautifully with the other distress ink colors. I even used the timber brown on a piece of furniture in my bath where the black paint on the shabby chic linen chest had worn too much. I decided to try it and see how it would do and look. Wow, it looked great with the brown wall paper trim and it blended right into the black. I even took some of the shabby shutters and went over it. I am so pleased with the finish and so was my husband. To finally make sure it stayed on I used some Stazon brown ink that I had purchased earlier from Amazon.Stazon inks adhere to anything almost. I plan to make tiles coasters for Christmas gifts using these same combinations of inks that I found at a great price on Amazon. I am using some of the beautiful stamps I got from Amazon on the tiles as well.
