Weight is everything when you already have a heavy video rig and are trying to save as much weight as possible. At 39g the Rode Video Micro II does just that. Saves on the weight without sacrificing performance. With no battery required, the Rode Video Micro II boasts an easy plug and play design that is perfect for content creators of all kinds.Included is a TRS to TRS cable (the black one) for DSLR/Mirrorless cameras and also a TRS to TRRS cable for smartphones and tablets (the red one). Make sure you use the correct cable. I didn't read the instructions and made the mistake of using the incorrect one with my Sony A7IV.The cardioid polar pattern for focused audio provides professional grade sound while minimizing background noise and focusing on the subject directly in front of the microphone. I really appreciate the all metal body, rycote helix isolation mount, and both the foam and furry windshields included. Rode provided a fantastic, high quality, professional grade compact microphone that saves weight and sounds amazing. I would highly recommend this to any content creator looking for a lightweight compact professional grade microphone.

The RØDE VideoMicro II is an absolute game-changer for my vlogging and content creation setup. This ultra-compact shotgun microphone delivers incredible audio quality despite its small size. The sound is crisp, clear, and focused, with minimal background noise, thanks to the supercardioid polar pattern. One of the standout features is the HELIX™ isolation mount, which effectively reduces handling noise. It’s perfect for on-the-go recording, and I love that it’s so lightweight—I barely notice it’s attached to my camera! The included foam and furry windshields work wonders for outdoor shoots, keeping wind noise at bay.Another big plus is the ease of use. It doesn’t require batteries—just plug it into your camera or phone, and you’re ready to record. The included cables for both 3.5mm TRS and TRRS connections make it super versatile, whether I’m filming with my DSLR or smartphone.✔ Pros:Excellent sound quality with reduced background noise.Lightweight and compact design.HELIX™ mount eliminates handling noise.Comes with windshields and versatile cables. No batteries required—plug-and-play simplicity.❌ Cons:None so far—it’s perfect for my needs! If you’re a vlogger, filmmaker, or content creator looking for a reliable, high-quality microphone that’s easy to carry and use, the RØDE VideoMicro II is a must-have. Highly recommended! 🎤✨

I use this mic on my Sony ZV-E10 every day. I also have the Rode NT-1 studio condenser mic, but my students say the VideoMicro II is clearer and so it's easier for them to hear my voice. I suspect this is due to it having strong response in the mids (where the voice resides) and less in the higher and lower ranges. (It's probably also better when played back on the students' laptop speakers or cheap earphones, which probably also lack highs and lows.) So, for this purpose, it works perfectly. However, it's not so good outdoors.Sometimes I record students outdoors for promotional videos. The included wind protection options are great, but after some testing I discovered that there is excessive wind noise when the wind comes from the side or back. This is due to the flat, ribbon-like shape of the shock mount. If you cover this area on the rear of the mic (and it would probably help to cover the cable too), you can blast it with powerful wind and it stays silent (as confirmed by my tests in a controlled environment).Recommended for indoor use only, or outdoors if you don't mind rigging up an extra cover for the shock mount to supplement the benefits of the fluffy wind shield. It's also highly directional, which is good if you want to somewhat isolate one speaker in a noisy location. I often mount it on a pole with a long cable and use it like a field reporter. Works perfectly and sounds great when you get closer to the interviewee (and without having to stick the camera right in their face).

I was looking for a shotgun microphone to use on my Sony a6700 for videography, and after doing some research looking at various models from Sony, RODE, and Sennheiser, the VideoMicro II was the one I ended up choosing. I was also looking at the original VideoMicro, but since it's 2024, I thought I'd go with the newer model. I didn't wanna spend a fortune on a high-end shotgun mic, so this one was the prime picking for me.So far, after a few uses, the VideoMicro II hasn't disappointed one bit. The plug-and-play style of setup makes everything super simple, and the audio quality that has come out of it is top notch. I was able to film events and performances with no issues. Inside the packaging, it comes with a deadcat wind muff, a foam wind muff, a TRS to TRS cable for cameras and camcorders, and a TRS to TRRS cable for smartphones. It comes with everything you need to get started in using the mic, including a cold-shoe mount for cameras.Overall, I'm very impressed with the VideoMicro II, and I'd definitely recommend it (especially when it's on sale!) I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future products from RODE.

Okay, fellow videography aficionados and content magicians, gather 'round! 🎥 Let me tell y’all about a solid upgrade I made recently - from the original Rode VideoMicro to the Rode VideoMicro II Camera-mount Compact Shotgun Microphone.First off, for context, I'm your quintessential hobbyist videographer, with my trusty Panasonic Lumix S5II X always within arm's reach. And man, has this new Rode VideoMicro II been a revelation!Straight out the gate, the value. 💸 The audio clarity has taken a notch up from the original - and that’s saying something because the OG VideoMicro was already pretty darn good. But for someone like me, the II just feels like it's been tuned to perfection. It's got this delightful crispness to the audio that makes your content sound that much more professional. Now, don't get me wrong. The big wide world of microphones is vast, with some mics that have price tags as impressive as their specs. But for the run and gun shooters among us, who prioritize efficient, high-quality, no-fuss gear? This mic is the sweet spot. It's plug, play, and phenomenal results every time.I have to give a nod to its compact size, too. It's like the pocket-sized superhero of camera mics, delivering way more than you'd expect from its petite frame. In conclusion? If you’re thinking of leveling up from the original Rode VideoMicro, or even just stepping into the videography game, the Rode VideoMicro II should be high on your list. It’s a small investment for a sizable leap in audio quality. And let's face it, in this game, good audio can make or break your content.
