Unlike the battery operated wireless mics, you never have to worry if the battery died in the middle of an interview

I used a microphone on my old phone to record interviews for a YouTube channel. Now I upgraded to iPhone 15 Pro max and had no longer any usage for old mic. I found this microphone for iPhone 15’s USB-C charger and I am very happy with my purchase. It records clear voice and comes with the nice bag where I store the microphone. I highly recommend it.

This mic is a great, easy to use, no frills but high quality solutions when you want to record your voice properly, avoiding echo or distortion, especially if not sitting super close to your camera. This product has a very long cable, so you can easily attach it to a phone/camera mounted on a tripod and take a few steps away, without any problem. I use it on my Pixel 6 Pro and the phone properly recognizes the mic and uses it as its audio source. The audio is crisp and clear. The mic is easy to clip to your clothes. It comes with a nice pouch to carry it around, protect it and avoid the cable from unfolding in your bag or getting stuck with other lose cables.

I love the idea of having a lav mic that plugs into my USB-C devices for audio input and recording. This device looks and sounds great -- and the faux leather carrying pouch is a nice touch for storage and travel. The 20' cord is way longer than I'll ever need, but it's great to have that flexibility. The clip is solid and sturdy. However, the device is awkward to use because when plugged in to either my iPhone 15 Pro or Dell laptop, both devices recognize it as a microphone AND speaker. On my PC, I can get around this issue by manually changing the speaker selection back to my laptop speaker after plugging-in the mic, but on my iPhone (as with my iPad) I don't have that option. So, the utility of this mic on my iPhone is limited to audio recordings (not something I do often) and it cannot be used for conversations -- a huge bummer. This mic isn't advertised for iPhone, so perhaps I can't hold that against the mic (and why I only docked it one star), but it's something to be aware of if you plan to use this with an Apple mobile device. I cannot attest to how it may work on an Android device. As long as you understand the limitations for its use, for what it is, this mic is well-made and delivers good quality audio for the size and price.

I performed three tests on this unit. The 80” long cord allowed me to record myself using the phone at a distance. Its effectiveness is better than using a Bluetooth microphone. When I used it to talk on the phone, I did find that the quality is clearer for the other person than when using the speakerphone. This has been a source of frustration ever since newer phones did away with the headphone jack. Talking with customer service reps or tech support has been a real pain because the speakerphone creates too much noise. The result is that I must use one hand to hold the phone and the other to try to take notes. However, I noticed that my phone must be on speaker mode for me to hear the other person once this mic is plugged in. It’s a bit strange but I suppose it solves the problem of having to hold the phone with one hand. When I tested it for dictation on Google Doc I read the same paragraphs using the speakerphone then this mic. I found that there’s hardy any difference in the number of mistakes the App made. This was a surprise but I suppose dictation requires a much higher level of clarity than just simply recording. Whether or not this device works for you depends on what you will use it for.
