It's a safety issue case for a professional or student brass instrument, and a bulky piece of luggage.

This case has been wonderful. Easily portable, even with the frankly bulky design of the flugelhorn. I agree with another reviewer that the side pocket could be expanded to hold music, but that's about it. Another reviewer suggests adding a layer of foam on top. While a very good idea, my use has shown I don't really need it. (I hope I never do . . . !)

I like the top-loaded design. The outer shell is made of a very stiff material. When the horn is packed inside, it sits in an upright "playing" position. The inside padding on the front, back and both lateral sides of the case is quite ample; however, on the inside of the lid there are only two strategically placed support pads, and a sort of thinly padded system of slots on bottom of the case where the horn should rest. But this condition allows the horn to slide back and forth too much, I think; and it only sits in the slots when the case is on the floor at rest. During carriage, especially when using the shoulder strap, the slotted system does nothing to keep the horn in place. To remedy this, I cut a thick piece of foam and attached it to the inside of the lid, and a thick piece of foam to the bottom of the case. In my opinion the manufacturer should have included this in the design. Oh well, this modification makes up for the deficiency quite well. This Protec case is nearly as rugged on the outside as the hard case it replaced; and with the modification I made, the interior cushioning is now top-tier.The other issue I was concerned about--although it's not a big one--is the fact that the side pocket is only 8" wide, so I can't store a typically-sized sheet of music there. Perhaps a wider pocket, designed to carry sheet music or maybe even a large portfolio, could have been placed on the opposite side of the case where there is more room?Yes, I would recommend this case to other potential buyers, but you might consider adding a little foam padding before stowing your expensive horn in it.

Very pleased with this bag. Perfect fit for my flugel, which has a 6 1/2" bell. Instrument is held securely in an upright position and is well protected. Highly recommended. Shame they didn't put a music pouch on the side, as there is plenty of room for one.

Very solid case where your flugel is safe, with a front pocket to put you oil and a few other things... What is unfortunately missing on this is a place to store your music or real book. Also this cannot be carried as a back pack. Maybe for the next version?

This case is exactly what I wanted, which is something smaller than the case that came with the horn. True, if something heavy fell on it, it might not be enough protection and a better place for the mouthpiece, other than included pouch miight be desirable. I wanted a case that is small enough to fly with and possibly fit under the seat in front of me. it has a nice side pocket that can hold boarding pass and wallet.

This is my first Pro Tec bag. I expected this to be a softer gig bag that I would have to coddle when packing it into my car etc. I was pleasantly surprised by the solid construction of this bag. It is most definitely a gig bag, not a hard case, however my horn is VERY well protected in this bag. The zippers are high quality and heavy duty, and just a little tight at first, but with a little use they are perfect. There are 2 hard, plastic mouthpiece holders built right in to the well-padded main compartment. I also like the way the horn is accessed from the top rather than laying on it's side. The pocket is luxurious with much space and nice sub-pockets for smaller items. The strap is very comfortable and sturdy. Carrying it on my shoulder is very comfortable: the strap connects to the bag via sturdy clips that allow the case to pivot slightly so that it rests comfortably on my side. This is a high quality, well-made, very functional gig bag at an excellent price.
