Tested R-C-L meter and compared it to my existing DVM Ohmmeter and Capacitor Meter. Measures Resistors and Capacitors with good agreement. I was able to measure the Inductance of a mechanical relay coil, but I don't have a previously measured Inductor for comparison (I don't use many Inductors in my circuits.)R-C-L Meter is a good addition to my electronic measure tools and is worth the price. It will be very useful in matching the values of components in applications where very close values of R and C discrete parts are needed. Sometimes the ability to match component values is more important that absolute accuracy of the measured value of a component.

Thieves broke in and stole some of my tools, including my capacitance meter. I opted to replace it rather than give up on fixing things. This is better than the pure capacitance-only meter I had, and it costs a little less than half as much. One of the big failure points with personal computers – both motherboards and laptops – is that the filter and isolation capacitors age and slowly lose capacitance. This meter can at least confirm your suspicions once you destructively remove the capacitor from the circuit. The only way I know to check them in-circuit is by using a magnetometer to measure in-rush current when you turn on the power supply. I have done that, but it is tricky, because you have to pay close attention to orient the magnetometer probe so that it is affected by the magnetic field produced by the current of the device under test, and also oriented so that it is aligned with the 3d null of the geomagnetic field at your geographic location. You end up kind of inconveniently bringing the system under test to the static geomagnetically-nulled probe rather than the convenience of bringing the probe to the system under test. Still, if you have 50 isolation & filter capacitors in parallel (like in a Tek scope), the inconvenience of holding the motherboard up to the probe can be less inconvenient than desoldering 50 caps to find out which one is open-circuited. In the unlikely event that a cap shorts-out, you can see the mag field produced by the current being drawn through the shorted cap anytime the power is on. But this meter is a good candidate for runner-up to a high precision magnetometer. And hit-and-miss desoldering is what everyone has been doing for over a century. Why work smart when you can work traditional with a cheaper tool?

It took a while to figure out how to compensate for the probes, but once I did, I got useful measurements for the job that I needed it for. This was much less expensive that other tools I had considered getting, and it basically works fine.

I just received the Proster Digital LCRvTester this afternoon. I ran it through it's paces, testing the LCR functions and the semiconductor diode function and it passed with flying colors. Tests were easy to perform and results were reasonably accurate. For the price this LCR meter is well worth buying. Yes, you can pay ten times or more for a fancier instrument. However for a large number of uses this meter is all you need. If you have a real need for all the bells and whistles, go ahead , but you probably will find yourself grabbing this one most of the time.

I needed to characterize some inductors and capacitors I had on hand, and came across this meter at a very attractive price. It has been working fine with the capacitors. Many of my inductors are from a grab bag, tiny coils in the single-digit uH range, and the meter hasn't worked as well with these -- I think test lead inductance is getting in the way. I probably haven't figured out the best way to measure these. The meter seems to be able to measure larger inductances, but I don't have a way of verifying accuracy at the moment. The meter is easy to use and has large, easy-to-read digits. There is nothing obviously fragile about it, but from reading the instructions and some of the reviews, I'm going to be careful with it. I think the inputs are probably not very well protected -- there shouldn't ever be voltage applied to them. In any event, it is cheap enough to be disposable if something happens.

I bought this product primarily to use as an inductance meter for my growing electronics hobby test bench. Although my DMM also does capacitance, resistance and diode testing, it is handy to have a second instrument on hand to perform these functions. Fulfillment was exceptionally fast - in a matter days! The packaging was professional and slick. The unit came with all the advertised accessories including a battery. I was impressed by the overall external build quality of the meter itself - appears very solid and durable. Plus I love orange body w black body color scheme! I did NOT open up the unit to inspect internal build quality. The pop-up display allows the instrument to lie flat while providing convenient viewing of the test results and, although not back-lit, it is sufficiently large for easy reading. The unit also comes with two sets of test leads, one long and one short. The short set has alligator clips and is great for testing loose components, while the longer set has standard probe tips along with a set of attachable alligator clips. Both sets of test leads are of good quality and with all the included options, you can connect to almost anything. As far as measurement accuracy is concerned, here are a few comparative results for Proster BM4070 LCR versus Brymen BM235 DMM: 47kΩ Resistor - 45.6Ω/45.68Ω; 22nF Capacitor - 17.68nF/20.48nF; Rectifier Diode - 0.555V(forward)/0.514V(forward). Thus, reasonably good accuracy and function at an attractive price point for an electronics hobbyist!
