You have to tighten on the knob a bit to get it to stay. Oh well get what you paid for but I had to drill out the indicator hole to accept standard SPI dial indicators and the fine adjustment is so loose between the machined parts I couldn't get a solid reading. I tried squeezing it and shimming between the moving parts and it still won't read solid. This is a no go for an indicator mag base. If you don't want to do machine shop level work to this brand new arm to make it reliable then don't buy it.

This worked perfectly for my application. I attached it to a magnetic base. Perfect.

If any sort of precision is what you need, look elsewhere. 3/8 -dovetail holder was undersized. Wouldn't recommend. Shell out for a Noga, you get what you pay for there, sadly not here even.
