The quality is a bit poor. The mountings screws were also incorrect, so I went to HD to purchase the mounting hardware

Our home was built in 1958, when homes were built with quality building materials, simple designs, family-friendly and super practical. The roof has been replaced more than once (I'm guessing the one we put on was probably its third or fourth new one). The original plumbing is still intact (although we've remodeled the bathroom and that included all new fixtures). The kitchen's been done as well, but the original cabinets are still in use with their having been re-skinned in up-to-date real oak doors and drawer-fronts and veneers. Original wiring is still "plugging away" with some added outlets, switches and LED lighting fixtures. Yes it is a well-built home, built by people that were professionals in their trades and its fine condition is a testament to how everyday people of this country used to do things. All the exterior doors have now been replaced due to wear and time, as has the HVAC system (actually, that has been replaced twice, as we wore out the first unit we had installed back in '97 just last year!). So what has this to do with these casement window operators? Well, the original and period-correct casement windows throughout the home have had to have their mechanical operators replaced many times since the home was built. You can get many years out of a window-crank operator without any maintenance, and many more years beyond if you take the time to occasionally apply lubricant grease to the gear that the crank uses to open and close the windows. But they simply do not last forever, and really they don't even come close to lasting as long as you would think they would, being an all-metal hardware piece. Consequently casement window operators fail and have to be replaced. The more windows the home has, the more frequently the job will need to be done. Having A/C does help delay the necessity somewhat, but generally much of the year all of the windows will get opened and closed at least once each day (we live in Sacramento, CA). Fortunately, different companies have continued to make these operators, so I've been able find them when needed. These cranks from Prime-Line are perfect matches to a number of the ones we currently have in use, and they are very well-made hardware items. Nicely finished and smooth in use. You can find others to do what these do, but I doubt you'll find any that are better made. Surprisingly, after all these decades since casement style windows and their accompanying operators came into use, no one has come up with a better design to replace them. I guess it's a bit of the old "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" Although knowing these will wear-out just like their predecessors I wish someone would make an attempt to "go ahead and fix it," you've got my permission!

I have a larger version that holds a full roll of tape and this smaller tape version, and this one does not despense the tape as easily as the larger version. You have to slightly push the tape back a bit or the unit looses it and it does not staple correctly. Also, the staples seem to bind up in the unit when you get about 2/3 the way through a load of fresh staples. helps to add addtional staples to work correctly. Perhaps the spring is not strong enough.

It was fine. Of course they sent the wrong color but we were able to prime and paint it to match our windows anyway. We had to chew the window up a little to make it fit as well because of the larger rivet that needed to pass through the windows. Other than that it works fine.

utter crap. tin metal construction, wobbles like mad. Spend the money on a proper arm if you want decent results. This may be suitable for a kids playhouse, but I would not ever install one of these in my house.
