I have purchased many powertec products and these metal gates are the first things I've received that have disappointed me.I was hoping they would be the same size as their plastic version but with an improving gate function. The inside hole diameter is different causing my problems. Now I will have to buy and make some sort of adapter to fit with my setup.I have been using the plastic ones for years and they often get clogged with sawdust and don't fully close making it necessary to take them out of my piping and clean them.I used the 2-1/2 between my festool CT vacuum which splits to the blast gates then to a miter saw and Bosch hose for my small portable tools. Taking the connections apart and cleaning them has gotten tiresome which is why I wanted to upgrade to the self cleaning metal versions.I like the gate function and how it doesn't restrict the air flow when open and the gates are thinner which works better in tight spaces.Had I known the inside diameters were so different I would have tried the 3 inch version. The pictures show the size difference and how the hose fits into the plastic gate but not the metal one. :(

I made 2 gates split for my hoses. Works good just it’s loose and making buzzing sound when it’s closed and vacuum stops.

Save your money and just get these instead of the plastic ones. The plastic ones trap the sawdust in the sliding door compartment, rendering them useless. These metal ones allow the saw dust to be pushed out each time it is closed.

While I’m pretty happy with my purchase, the design does leave them a bit leaky. They seem to be high quality and are easy to install. Blast gates that don’t leak are probably much more difficult to design and undoubtedly would be MUCH more expensive. I just taped up the self-cleaning opening to eliminate some of the leakage now. If the gate gets clogged, I’ll just remove the tape, clean it out, and reapply. You patience may vary…

The back part of these gates are not closed (maybe to prevent dust buildup like what happens in the cheap plastic blast gates?) ... but that means when the gate is in the open position that it's also not sealed which hurts the suction. Not ideal at all, might as well have just continued using the plastic ones that I cut the bottom off of to prevent them jamming up with dust, because these do the same thing. Most metal blast gates have a much longer gate, so if this is what you're looking for these are NOT the ones you want.

I used these to replace all the plastic ones in my system. Must have went through 15+ plastic ones that constantly would get jammed up with dust/shavings and stop closing all the way making my dust collection system lose a lot of suction. Have not had that problem at all with these. BUT, I did come to realize that the opening in the bottom where it's supposed to be able to push out dust/shavings, whichever gate is open you lose suction from that narrow opening on the bottom of the gate. I solved this by just covering that slit with gorilla duct tape on all the metal gates. If a gate gets jammed up with dust I'll just remove the tape to clear it out and then replace the tape. I'd rather do that than have a bunch of plastic ones that won't close all the way.
