The PHX-11 is best described as a solid, classic, high impact tool. The genuine hickory handle not only gives it a classic look but also added strength & serves as a shock absorber. The handle design was also tailored to give a snug & comfortable grip for added ease of use. Particular importance was given to the make & design of The Axe head to ensure maximum strength & durability. Made from hardened C45 carbon steel through a process of dropforging, cooling in an oil bath then heat treating. The result is steel of the highest quality that has been tested to withstand 53-56 hrs based on the Rockwell hardness Scale. The overall result is a well-balanced axe that gives you a higher° of control & chopping power.

To be very clear, the price was too good to be true, and I walked right into it. Pros: nice and light, as far as axes are concerned. It seemed to split ok for its weight and length vs the knotted oak I had. The blade profile seems to be decent as a chopper, not very sharp when I got it.Cons: The handle is not great quality, says it is hickory, and I don't know enough about wood to dispute that, but it seems rough and not as tight grained as I would expect. The bigger issue is that the head already started to separate after just a few swings. I haven't taken it apart to see if the wedges are moving or if the handle is too narrow, no idea until I remove the black stuff off the handle to see the actual top/wedges. I'm hoping it is salvageable, but that remains to be seen.

Axe was dull when it arrived. It appears to be hardened, as it took some effort to put a sharp edge on it. It cut decently. Good balance. Right amount of head weight to produce reasonable wood chips.

We recently had a tornado strike here in Oklahoma. We had 7 large trees come down on the property. A local crew helped in clearing most, but I needed an axe to trim off some of the logs. I purchased my Powerhouse axe and it came early today, I put it to work almost immediately and WOW....what a great axe. I love the feel of the wooden handle and the blade is perfect. We used it until dark, brought it in and sharpened it and will be out again in the morning with my new Powerhouse PHX -11 700 High Performance Axe!!!

I surched for a quality inexpensive axe at local stores and on Amazon. I found this one being the best one for the price, vaule and good quality.I recommend this type of axe for camping, hunting and general outdoors use. I use this axe in my back yard for preparation of dry fire wood that I use in my outdoor fireplace and camping stove. I also use thi axe in my back yard for landscaping of trees and bushes. I highly recommend this axe for the value, quality at a fair price. (RLM)

This axe is just what we were looking for. It is very well made, well-balanced, and ergonomic. It works great, and we expect it to last, but it took consider work to sharpen the blade. It came with a cover over the blade, so we expected it to be at least somewhat sharp but it wasn't. It took about 30 minutes or so of constant work to sharpen the blade with a hand sharpener, and then it worked like a charm. The price was definitely worth the extra effort. I would highly recommend buying it, but be prepared to sharpen it upon arrival.

Axe head is loose on the handle. Not sure if putting a new axe handle on like many of the reviews say will help it. The hole is bigger than the handle head. Really unhappy with the purchase. You would think the quality control would be a LOT better. Come on manufacturer. Get your stuff together. This will hurt someone!Update #1:So I cut the handle off to attach a new one since this handle is horrible. It don’t fit and the grain of the wood is fairly porous. The head of the handle inside the axe head was loose. It also had a good amount of some kind of bondo / filler. A few good hits and it would have came apart. Now the axe head. They use some really good paint because it fills in all the imperfections and there are a lot. VERY POOR QUALITY WORKMANSHIP! The angle of the hole is offset from the blade so attaching a new handle may be a waste of even more money. Inside the hole I had to take a file because it was a mess. It was not even and had a huge ridge in the middle which would make it hard to attach a new handle to as well.I would HIGHLY recommend NOT purchasing this item. For $30 go to your local hardware store and get one that has twice the quality. You will only get hurt using this thing.
