So far this has worked well. It needs to be inserted at full depth and needs grease. You will need a vice or some kind of fixturing device to apply adequate torque. I'm a millennial liberal so don't listen to the reviews that say this is a sub-par product. It's not made to work on .055" fence post. .025" galvanized worked just fine.

this is a tool that i didn't know about at all. it was recommended for my project and it worked PERFECTLY. and yes it was NOT used for any exhaust pipe work. Could be the best spent dollars on the project of all times.

Used on a forklift exhaust system. It worked fine. Its a tool that is not tool truck price so I used a wrench and my brain. Nothing broke on tool, exhaust system got installed without removing the forklift counterweight. Well worth the price if you use your brain.

Since it didn't come with any instructions I looked up a YouTube video and step one was to take it apart and grease it up which I did. The video showed then using it with a ratchet handle then a breaker bar. My son is a mechanic and he advised using it with my air hammer, and go SLOW! First I measured the J-tube exhaust on a vintage 356 Porsche where it slips into the muffler with a micrometer. It was 1.49". I hit it with the air hammer for literally 10-20 seconds on two J-tubes, measured twice and took it to 1.52", and made it a proper snug fit into the muffler. Amazingly effective tool.

I didn't know what to expect. It did cost more than the other expander. Used it to expand 1 1/2" fence tubing. Oiled it up and used a impact air gun. Expended just enough to get with was needed and didn't break.

It is NOT 1 1/8 it's 1 1/4 it will not fit inside 1 1/4 exhaust pipe!, I had to grind it down to fit but the rubber orings won't hold up to heat because this is not strong enough to expand pipe cold , it's only strong enough to round a egg shaped pipe, if it had spring keepers it might have held up to a red hot pipe from a torch. total waste of time and money. should have just welded the pipe in the first place 🤬

Years ago I bought the 2 1/2 inch one for my truck, same brand worked no problem expanding the two pieces of pipe, now I have a SUV with a 40 mm inside hoped to expand it to fit over the other 44 mm outside,no go first time cracked it half in ten min. Different metals 10 yrs later.

At first, I thought it wasn't functioning as needed. But I put an impact wrench on it and it performed very well. Need to be careful with exhaust pipe you don't go too far and split the pipe, but I successfully stretched my 2.25 ID to 2.4 ID to slip over the connecting pipe. Took about three runs of 5-10 seconds. Worked very well. Even and round stretch. Would recommend. Would take a while to work with a hand ratchet, but if you have an impact and you're careful, it's a no-brainer.

I like this expander mostly because it is available in a smaller size. It is well constructed and is adequately strong for the intended use, which is to reshape a dented or distorted exhaust pipe for reconnection. I think most negative reviews associated with this product are because users are trying to expand the pipe to a larger diameter. Tools like this are not designed for that degree of enlargement. My only complaint with this tool is the rubber o rings holding the expander segments together. These tools are often used while heating the pipe with a torch so extreme caution would have to be used to save the o ring. Tools like this I have previously owned had their segments retained by a garter spring. Otherwise the tool is good.

I used synthetic grease on the nut, bolt and the tapered ends. Then I also greased the orings and metalexpansion fingers. I put grease inside the pipe i was expanding, just a light coating.I used a socket and rachet to turn the bolt. I pushed the expander in until the ends of the fingers were even with the pipe end. This seems best as they have full support when expanding. I turned until i had some pressure then released and rotated the tool. I repeated this until i had the one or two millimeters needed. One ramp showed some minor wear marks but nothing cracked or broke using the tool gently.I was able to slide my pipe connector onto my exhaust and clamp it successfully. This tool seemed to have better metal than some other similar tools on Amazon. It looked nicely made but pipe is hard to expand.I would not use an impact driver or expect to do large expansions of pipe with this tool.

I purchased to use on a 1-1/4” OD thin wall mower tailpipe. It just barely does not fit. A disappointment to say the least. I’m going to rent a torch and see if I can heat the pipe enough to soften it and hammer the expander in. What a hassle. Otherwise the product appears decently made other than the dimensions and the rubber rings do not appear to be very strong and may not last.

The product is not capable of performing the work it was designed to do. The first problem is that it is cast and the pieces meant to push the pipe outward will crack. On my first use (using a 3/4" socket on 1/2" drive ratchet), the tool cracked in 2 places. Being that the job was an emergency, I went to Autozone and bought another one (different name brand but identical). Second try was worse (using ~100ft/lb impact gun), 2 more breaks and finally the nut stripped out before I could make a 1/8" expansion on standard exhaust pipe. The tool is absolutely worthless, when the second tool was returned to Autozone, they confirmed that they are junk and you would be lucky if you can a single pipe to expand for each tool you destroy in the process.
