My son used this as part of his Captain Ahab costume. The telescope was longer and better quality than expected — it looked the part. The compass looked nice from the outside but did not work. Truly we only wanted the telescope, or I would have deducted a point.

Gave telescope and compass as a Christmas gift to my grandkids,3 and 6 year old boys. It was a nice addition to their pirate collection. TBH, I did not look through the telescope, so can't help you out there, which is important. It came packaged well, BUT the pretty GOLD compass of one of the sets had a dent right on the middle; was very noticeable to kids who inspect everything. The COMPASS, alone, could not be sent back, according to AMAZON because it came as a set and AMAZON would only take entire set back. For me- too much trouble, so kept it. But,don't think for a second, that the grandson who received the dented compass was not disappointed; I could see he was. . This is why my rating is 4 stars.

I bought these items for my 5 year old nephew who likes to play pirate. They work well enough to make him happy. The telescope and compass look authentic and very cool for a child or even an adult looking at them. The telescope can focus and you can see objects closer from a distance. I must stress this is a toy and not a sophisticated instrument and works for imaginative play purposes. I am happy with it.

This item was complete garbage. It was busting out of the box before I ever opened it. When I did open the inner packaging, the whole on spring open and almost hit me. I’m glad my grandson didn’t open it as it was very dangerous Purchase with caution. if I could give no stars, and do a review, I would. This does not deserve a single star.

This is very lightweight and definitely a costume or toy level telescope. It does not focus well and the area that can be seen is quite small.It looks nice and makes a nice addition to a costume -- or a gift for a young child to give them something to explore their world.Good telescopes have great optics and great optics glass is not cheap. You should not expect to get a quality, workable telescope at anything near this price point.

The toys are fun. I don’t know if the compass works for real. We just play with it. The telescope took some messing with to get it to focus. But it did focus and works well. I love the pouch that came with it. I would buy them again for a toy. Would make a great gift.
