Apparently Pirastro has stopped making their Gold Label viola strings. Also apparently the Gold Label Pizzaro Viola strings are supposed to be even better than the discontinued Gold Label strings.

Our high school going son finds this brand much superior to others he has used on his viola. He says the sound is much more warm and not bright. Not that I fully get these adjectives, but had to throw them in this review!

On my instrument the obbligato D is superior to this string. In my opinion, it is not worth the extra expense.

I was unhappy with the Helicore D string on my viola as it sounded "flabby." It took too much effort to to get a decent tone out of that one string, especially when playing F#. Anyhoo, I was reluctant spending this much money on a string for an instrument that isn't even my primary instrument (I'm a cellist), but I figured I would be happier if at least the instrument sounded good. Well, I took the leap and wow...wow! The D is warm, bright and responsive. Effortless playability! I'm buying an A string...hell I may just buy a whole set!
