Purchased one of these at Hallmark last year and thought what a cute gift. Hallmark no longer carries them, so I found this one. Definitely pricier but I thought well it is "The Original."A FLIMSY PAMPHLET instead of the small manual book.NO ACESSORIES (why include a video if those aren't included?)The rock and box are decent.Paid more, got less. Disappointed.

The pet rock is great it watches whatever I do, comforts me in a way non bought pet rocks can’t, they also do lots of tricks such as sit, stay, quiet, erode, and roll. Roll is best preformed on the side of a hill, they are the best pet because they are quiet and don’t eat much. I recommend buying Gary Dahl’s pet rock. Mine is Named sir Rockington

I ordered this and worked on my pitch to be a stay at home pet rock mom. My big day came and I finally gave the pitch to my husband. I was so nervous and waited for his response. He looked me dead in my eye and said “that’s not a real job”. I was crushed.I ended up giving baby Stone (that’s what I named my pet rock) to another family who could love him the way I wished I could.Now I’m working on my pitch for stay at home faux house plant mom. Gave the Pet Rock 3 stars because my rock is not good quality and the certificate is damaged. Which is printed on... guessing wax paper? As shown in the pictures it's see thru. You also can see in the pictures my rock, is triangle, not round and also cracked. Guess Igor would be a good name in this case. Love the cute little box. I say in my case this was not worth $20. Now I have to go rock hunting for the perfect rock and let Igor go free in the garden. The reason I purchased this item is to use for my rock painting business. I'm looking for a rock mascot...LOL. And Igor is not mascot material! Sigh, so trend lightly when purchasing because you may get a Igor for a pet rock.

Gary Dahl did something great. Any other supplier of a so-called "Pet Rock" is infringing his trademark. Mine is the real thing, complete with a numbered certificate of authenticity, and a cushioned crate for sleeping.Initially I was going to call my pet something cheesy, like Rocky, but a geologist friend of mine came over and told me my rock was formed deep in the Earth, lived in a river bed which became a dry river, and was almost 4 billion years old. A miracle... no other pet I've ever had lived more than 23 years. So I named her Mirical.My Mirical is unbelievable: she doesn't tear up anything in the house, and goes happily into her crate every time I ask. I don't exactly walk her because we don't make a lot of progress when I've tried, but I do take her out in a little red wagon. The neighbors love her. She never attacks other pets, never makes any loud noises at all, and she just loves to be cuddled. No one is afraid of her; everyone smiles when they see her coming.And she eats almost nothing, and hasn't pooped yet. When she goes in our lake, she dries off almost immediately.Just to think, I know a lot of people who would happily trade in their spouses or their kids for a pet rock.
