About this item

  • 40,000 volts
  • Available chrome plated or black for that stock look
  • For use with inductive ignition systems
  • 15 or 30 Ohm primary resistance values available
  • Legal in all 50 states and Canada (CARB EO #D-57-21)

While it’s the perfect coil to go with the PerTronix Ignitor breakerless ignition, our 40,000 volt Flame-Thrower canister coil can benefit virtually any distributor type inductive system. Its higher voltage allows largerspark plug gaps for added power, smoother response and better fuel economy. These coils are internally resisted so installation and wiring is drastically simplified. Our oil filled coils offer great heat control for street driven vehicles, while our epoxy filled coils provide superior winding support for high vibration environments in off-road vehicles and boats.

So far Ive yet to fire the new engine SBF 302 in my hot rod but when I reached out to Pertronix to make sure I was buying the right distributor I asked for a coil recomendation and this is it .. Delivery was very fast .

I was disappointed in this. It created an engine missfire when engine warmed up due to being low in cooling oil on the inside of the coil.

Installed in a '65 Mustang and the car backfired badly several times on the first drive. It got worse and worse over the course of a month. The car would shutter, stall, sometimes not start, and randomly backfire. Replaced with a new MSD coil and all of the issues went away.

Engine runs way better than before and since its epoxy filled it can be mounted upside down un like an oil filled coil, way more power and excellent idle, I highly recommend it.

If you got rid of your points and upgraded a few other pieces of your ignition system, but aren't ready for a full-fledged electronic, computer-controlled system, then I highly recommend Pertronix. I had one on my old air-cooled, 4 cylinder Super Beetle and now on my 360, V-8 Jeep and it's just simple, solid performance.

I Installed this coil (bypassing the 'ballast resistor') on my 1993 Four Winns Boat.Along with this coil, I installed a Pertronix Ignitor ii ignition kit.The combination is wonderful...The boat starts at the touch of a key, and idles beautifully - two things it hadn't done ever before (better than when it was new)...

Installed 40111 epoxy coil in 1929 Model A Ford, 6volt with unmodified distrib. Wanted to check spark intensity so held coil wire next to block while cranking.Previously got a solid 1/4" spark. Now it jumps a 3/8" gap. Very noticeable change in starting an smooth idle. I set plugs at .040 and highway speed has more throttle available now and smoother operation. I'm sold. All my A friends are buying this coil. I used epoxy instead of oil filled due to coil operating upside down. No chance of leakage and runs cooler. Also installed same unit on 6volt '50 Ford flathead and '54 Ford 239 OHV V8. Didn't change plug gaps but definitely better starting and running. More pep.The price was very affordable, too, and can't beat free shipping...especially to Alaska. Thanks Amazon.

Coil DOES have more power than the stock one. I know as I have set timing on this car before, its a prewar Lasalle and has open plug clamps. I have clamped the inductive timing light on the plug wire before, but after installing this coil, I the *#(%# shocked out of me just hooking it up NEAR the end of the plug wire. You should be able to significantly open up the plug gap to get a more positive ignition.Negative is it didn't come with a clamp and my old one had it welded on, and the coil runs a bit warm but its flowing a lot of juice. Don't leave ignition on w/o car running it may overheat. I know they call it flamethrower, that's funny to complain about it running hot. Factory guy told me they run like on the high side 110-120 F or something not to worry.

After a problem with getting the right model I installed this in my Mercruiser stern drive and it has worked fine.Problem is they come in two different impedance's. The Amazon site wasn't clear as to which I needed and I originally got the wrong one. With a call to Pertronix I found out which one I needed. When I reported this to Amazon they exchanged the wrong one for the right one including shipping. I also installed the Pertronix breakerless ignition. I really had to make a large change in the timing for those. So if you change to those make sure to check and adjust your timing.
