Bought this for my 1944 Ford 2N. Fit perfectly in the distributor and fired up a lot faster than before.
The product works better than points

These point are awesome for my ford 9n front mount distributor. I was having constant trouble with the old points trying to set them properly. So I switched to these electric points, after rebuilding the engine, easy to time and install. They work great

Purchased this item and upon delivery instructions state that magnet will be tight. well using a Caliper Measuring Tool there is no way this item would ever fit this application as stated without modifications. But be aware if you do this you alter product and take chance of losing $150. After reaching out to customer service and tech support they refused to help as they said they have a contract with amazon it wasn't their problem. I realized I SHOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT A PETRONIX PRODUCT. THEY WERE RUDE AND OFFER NO REPLACEMENT FOR THE MISADVERTISED MAGNET. Moving forward guys consider other options before buying this item as bad points is still better than this kind of treatment for part that should be plug and play. so disappointed ANTHONY was the tech at petronix btw.......

Installed according to instructions and it turned over after about 3 revolutions. I was super amazed. Now I'll see how long it lasts. Should have done it a long time ago.

Used this for a 1950 8N with the front mount distributor. It would start up, run ok, start misfiring (acted like it was starving for gas) and die out. I really thought it was a carb issue (tractor had a Chinese clone carb when I got it). I installed a real deal cast iron rebuilt carb, and still the same issues.Installed this, and wow. Fired right up and dead consistent. Although the tractor was “converted” to 12V before I got it, I had my doubts about the ignition coil. I checked the primary resistance, and sure enough, it was really low, like 1 ohm, which would be fine for a 6V system with points. Pertronix requires at least 3 ohms of primary resistance. I bought a 12V coil on Amazon (measured roughly 2.6 ohms) and combined with a 1 ohm ballast resistor, that was perfect.Install was easier than expected. I thought the front mount distributor would be a pain, but it was easy. Remove it from the tractor completely, paying attention to where your rotor is pointed. Mark it with something. The positive wire needs to be able to exit the distributor and go up to the ignition coil positive wire, so if you don’t have the factor 1/8 npt breather hole, you’ll have to drill a hole like I did. Easy.Bottom line, best investment I’ve made yet for the 8N.

For a company that claims to be the original manufacturer of modular ignition conversion, these people should be ashamed of this product! You'll have to drill and tap threads for the concave brass screw that receives the contact spring from the coil! For some reason these are manufactured to fit a much smaller screw. Ridiculous!Otherwise, everything fit very well, works perfectly!

Really easy to put in and it's been working great since I put it in over a year ago. Tractor starts the best it's ever has and has substantially more power than it did before. It was a great buy.

My old tractor is a 1940 model 9N Ford.Dad and my grandfather went in together and bought it in around 1963. I learned how to drive on this thing as well as learning a lifetime of valuable mechanical skills and tractor usage skills. The points constantly closed up on these things no matter what you tried. Also they never seemed to last as long as you would think. We’re not talking duel point rev pole high performance, with Excell super coils here. I being a tool and die maker tried a lot of fixes but nothing seemed to really fix the problem well. After 58 years of point problems I decided to try solid state ignition. This is the fix in my opinion. It went in as smooth as one could ask for. Every thing was as advertised. No problems. It all fit like a glove. After the installation it started after the third rotation of the engine. What more could I ask for? I wanted to use it mowing and scraping some before I did a review and so far it has worked great. I mowed the 2 acre yard. 6” tall grass, 6’ bushog finish mower doing fall clean up.and I must say the old Gentleman did itself mighty proud. I recommend this product to anyone having ignition problems on these old N tractors. I can only hope I can work that hard when I’m 80years old. Give yourself and your old Ford N a break. Try this , it worked for me!

This is a great product. I wish we would have found this earlier. Our 49 8N is running like a top and I could have used this on my 53 Jubilee. Easy to install, results were evident from the get go . We are looking forward to putting her to work.

I had watched several YouTube videos on converting my 1948 Ford 8N Tractor to electronic ignition, and after watching this particular setup I was excited to give it a try. When it arrived I again watched the YouTube video and followed it almost step by step. Everything was going great until I attempted to install the spark actuator onto the center distributor shaft. No way would it slide into place like it did on the video. After a few attempts, it did go partway, but not far enough to permit the rotor button to pop onto the center shaft. I went ahead and installed everything that came with the kit, but the snap ring would not fit into the channel. When I took everything apart again and attempted to pull the spark actuator off the shaft--It came apart and the 4 tiny magnets inside fell to the ground! I contacted Per Tronix directly and after few minutes of explaining just what had happened, they sent me a new spark actuator at no cost or shipping. When the new one arrived it also was too small to easily slip into place. I again called Per Tronix and explained my difficulty. The tech gladly assisted me and after carefully filing the lugs on the inside of the actuator with a sanding disk on my Dremel tool, it finally slipped into place. The reason for the difficulty was not in Per Tronic's manufacturing, but due to the after-market distributor the previous owner had installed onto my tractor. From what I gathered from the tech, it's a common problem with after-market distributors. Once I had reassembled everything, I was truly pleased with the increased spark I have at each spark plug. I would recommend this kit for converting your 8N tractor to electronic ignition, and if you experience any trouble installing the product--Don't try to force the spark actuator onto the shaft as I did, but Give them a call. I hope this helps!
