This really works great for new crisp bills BUT magnetic sensitivity is a little weak on used bills.

I have a friend who owns a local corner store that I occasionally help out at. The other day their marker to detect counterfeit money ran dry and I came across this. I tested it at home, and it worked, somewhat. But then I took it to the store, and I have to say, it's not commercial quality.First, I guess it works because I haven't come across any counterfeit money yet, fortunately. I tested it on $5 thru $100 bills. But my problems were this: at home it was a bit hard to see the light and actually was more detectable when I shined the light from underneath the bill. However, when in the store with brighter lights, it was practically impossible to see the strips, let alone their color. And the magnetic sensor usually took several passes before it beeped. Again, not a major problem at home but in the store, it took too much time to register when there's a line of customers.I'm giving it a below average rating because it does work. But even in the home environment, it's pretty tedious to use. It's actually more convenient and faster to just keep buying the markers. I wouldn't recommend.

This is light weight and pocket sized.Seems to work just fine and so far no issues.Hopefully i dont need it too much.Zeke approved.

This is a small size bill checker that is used to check counterfeit bills. I comes preloaded with a battery that is ready to go, just remove the plastic piece that separates the battery from the inside battery bay.The bill I suppose works with the magnetic rubber, but the UV light doesn't work on some bills, like $100 bills. The UV does work slightly on the $20 bills (US), showing a faint blue line. The $100 bills are suppose to show a pink line which shows up on a flourecent black light, but this detector with it's LED based light simply does not make that line show.The magnetic detector needs to be rubbed on the bill over a hard flat surface, and it will beep when it's detected. The detector can be triggered as well when in proximity of a magnet. You cannot use it by just holding the bill up and rubbing it, it's gotta be on a relatively flat and firm surface to get a reading.This might be OK for smaller 20's and such but not for 100's, unfortunately. That is why I took off a star.

Pros:Small and solid little device that looks good.Takes just one battery.Not so “pro”:I spent about 15 minutes checking a bunch of bills at home. I checked $10, $20 and $100 demoninations multiple times. Even after I thought I had the hang of it, the results were very inconsistent. I could run the magnetic detector head back and forth over the heavy ink areas and nothing would happen but if I kept at it I would eventually get a “beep” denoting it was not counterfeit.Other times, it would beep immediately, same bill… The UV light is practically useless. In the dark I could see a faint line but couldn’t really make out a specific color. I grabbed a UV flashlight that I have from puppy days and it lit up the bills perfectly. Lines and colors were super visible and clear.All in all, probably okay to use if you have the time to keep at it but I wouldn’t have the confidence to use it in a business setting.

This 2 in 1 Counterfeit Note detector works but you need a dark space / room for the UV light to show the security threads inlaid inside of U.S. notes . I have tested this on U.S. notes only. The item is small and compact that you can easily carry it in your pocket or tool kit. Both the UV light and micr reader are on the same side and this device has 2 buttons on it to operate each function separately. It does work in areas with lights but it is just hard to see the security thread and or the color of it, best results are in low light. The micr ink reader works great. The micr ink reader works best with the note or check on a hard flat surface, table, counter, etc. The micr ink reader is basically a magnetic strip reader. It works best if you place it on the top or bottom corner of a note in the length wise position, push the reader activation button and a red light will appear to let you know it is active. With the reader on the note slowly slide it along the length of the note. As you do this will hear the audible alarm sound and stop several times as it passes over micr ink and goes off of it. I hope this review helps. I gave this item 4 stars because it does work and my be just fine for some people. It does work just in my personal opinion and functions of life I like a more intense UV light in the 960 or lower spectrum so you can be fast, effectively check notes in many ambient light conditions and move on to your next duty, job, etc...
