This is not a floating thermometer. It sinks, which is perfect for testing the temperature of the water that is not surface heated by the sun. It seems to be very sturdy. The cord is about three feet long.

Worked fine, tied it to a donut tube in my pool and the string got funky after several months, that's all and I replaced the string. Works good. Glad I no longer have a pool to take care of an maintain. Awww what a relief it its

My husband does a lot of swim training in lakes. It's very important to know the current water temperature for a number of reasons. This thermometer is great! And, best of all, it doesn't float!

I use it to check the water temperature in our potable water system. It is easy to read except when there is water beaded on the glass.(just wipe it off). The first one survived being dropped on the ground 3 times, which jarred the seal loose. The water eventually loosened the temperature tube from the indicator background. The next one the blue fluid separated into 3. This one has so far been giving good service. Good product, just don't drop it. It does not float.
