Definitely an upgrade from the throw-off that came on my Roadshow snare. Only issue I ran into was the butt plate that came with this throw-off holes didn't match up with my Roadshow snare holes but all I did was use the Roadshow butt plate. The holes for the throw-off lined up perfectly.

I just took delivery of this snare drum strainer/butt set on April 8, 2013, but I have to say I'm slightly disappointed in half of this set. The butt plate I got does not match the one in the photo. Obviously, Pearl needs to update the photo and pronto, because I live nowhere near a high-end music gear retailer. I must rely on my local web service for such purchases. In the photo here, it shows this set's butt plate to be much wider than the plate that actually comes with this set. That's frustrating, because I was hopefully gonna use part of this set to repair a damaged butt plate on an old Slingerland Sound King snare I bought last December. Had the butt plate matched the appearance of that shown in the web stock photo (not Amazon's fault, obviously), and matched the mounting hole spacing of my old butt plate, I would have used it to repair and eventually sell my Slingerland to a local pawn shop. The reason why is that this classic Slingerland snare has proven to be more of a maintenance headache than a valuable asset. I'm thankful I've got a nice Ludwig Acrolite snare to back it up, which is far nicer in quality. My plan now is to use this Pearl strainer and butt plate on an 8X14" snare drum I'm planning to build later on this year. It will not only look nice and rugged, but I'm hoping it will also perform good as well. Pearl's gear is usually on the high-end level of quality, even when it comes to their entry-level equipment! And one thing I'm very pleased with, regarding this item, is that the hardware (screws, etc.) is also interchangeable with an existing snare strainer I bought to use initially on my Slingerland and eventually my 8X14" custom. This would allow me to customize my custom snare drum even further, and it gives me backup hardware as well.
