Gibraltar SC-STO Deluxe Snare Throw-Off

I wanted to replace an old style snare throw off that just got in the way. So, found this one that is like the magnetic ones on DW snares. It’s a bit weighty, but works very smoothly. In my case I had to drill a new small hole and fill the old one with wood filler. The hole is so small I’m guessing you wouldn’t need to fill it up and your snare will sound the same. Very satisfied with how it turned out.

A great replacement for the all to often broken early Pearl throws. The Gibraltar version is not only similar in appearance the mounting holes are the same at 38mm. The only issue is the screws that are supplied are way too long for metal shells so you may need to use the original ones. Also to ensure that the adjuster knob is clear of the hoop I used rubber washers as spacers.

My first order of this item got lost in transit, so I reordered from a family member’s Prime account.Great for replacing the cheap lever type strainer that comes on most entry-level snares. Would have rated five stars if the knob were easier to turn without disengaging the snares.NOTE: The hole spacing on this item is 1.5” from the CENTER of both holes and are oriented VERTICALLY (perpendicular to the bearing edge). The included mounting screws may be too long for thin shells and no spacers are included to remedy this.

Smooth action. Simple, fail proof design. Feels like it will last a long time. So much better than the old one it replaced. I'll be buying more of these in the future as I pick up more snares.Fit Pearl Sensitone Elite and also fit my Yamaha stage custom birch snare.

I have a PDP set and bought a semi matching snare on eBay. The snare had a broken DW DJAD-193 strainer/throw off mechanism.As I looked for a replacement, I stressed about drilling the drum. I also like the DJAD's functionality, enter the SC-STO.The ST-SCO is the same throw off as the now discontinued DW DJAD-193 with a couple exceptions: the Gibraltar holes are slightly more spaced apart, maybe 1/16" per side (used a file, not a drill to accommodate the difference), the Gibraltar does not come with a rubber gasket (if your DW gasket is still intact the strainer's footprints are the same it will work with the Gibraltar also), the screws that come with the Gibraltar won't accommodate the gasket's thickness (they're too short), so save your DJAD-193 screws and washers as the thread pattern is the same in the Gibraltar. The one big design difference is the extended metal flare portion which looks cool, but I wasn't terribly worried about it.Time will tell how it holds up, but this information was not obvious nor was it readily available online as I was deciding on a throw off, so hopefully this helps someone in a similar predicament if they search for it.Operation is smooth and seems to be a well made part. As this drum will be on my teaching kit, it will absorb some abuse but I believe it's up to the challenge.

Nice looking throw off but quite heavy, drop is only about 8mm so may not suit deep stave drums as the resonant head will slap against the snare wires as the drop should be greater. Otherwise for the money its a well made unit!

This item replaced an old Ludwig throw off that was rusted and non functional. So easy to install and to use. works like a charm and I installed it on 2 other snares that I have. Saves $$ over the other expensive hardware options. I like it alot.
